Damage reduction and magic items

I always thought that magic items get past damage reduction but the srd says:

"Some monsters are vulnerable to certain materials, such as alchemical silver, adamantine, or cold iron. Attacks from weapons that are not made of the correct material have their damage reduced, even if the weapon has an enhancement bonus."

So does that mean a warlock who has DR X/cold iron will get their DR even against a +5 weapon? And what about a magical creatures? Does DR still work against an adult red dragon's claw attack since it's not cold iron? Thanks for the help!!

Agreeing with Frank.

In 3.0 things were different, and magic overcame all other DR types (that I know of at least). That may be the source of your confusion.
