Damage Reduction

Okay, I'm not sure why I'm not getting this today, but how exactly does Damage Reduction work? For example, if a critter has 15 DR, does that mean it ignores 15 points of accumulated damage before it starts feeling the pain, or does it ignore 15 damage *every* time it's hit? Does DR regenerate each round? Or am I making this too difficult?

The format of DR is something like this: DR <amount>/<types that bypass>

<amount> gets deducted from each attack, even if they are all in the same round or from the same creature. <amount> does not get deducted if the weapon used has <types that can bypass>.

E.g.: DR 10/good, 10 gets deducted from each attack unless the weapon used has the Good descriptor.

E.g.: DR 10/-, 10 gets deducted from each attack, regardless.

Spells, spell-like abilities and energy attacks ignore DR altogether, even if they would cause slashing/piercing/bludgeoning damage.

In a nutshell.

Thank you Peter, Andargor and Crothian. Now I understand--and I ran it wrong yesterday, so my party defeated a grick that should have been a bit more difficult.

Thanks again.
