D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

I don't like slow. It is an all or nothing spell. And the debuff is not big enough to justify its cost. I'd rather upcast hold person.

Slow is pretty awesome in play. Probably better than Hypnotic Pattern IME, generally not as effective as Fear, but situationally better and generally way better than fireball.

Sliw hits up to 6 targets. And it's a wisdom save.

Generally it's goid to go vs 50-100% of the targets. I don't think I've ever seen it fail 100%.

I had it on an order cleric and started using it over spirit guardians in 5.0.

It's also brutal in zone type spells.
 

Yeah, fireball doing some damage might cost the enemy actions at the end of combat by killing them sooner, but spells like fear, hypnotic pattern, and slow cost them actions up front.

Slow is also more party friendly because it's selected targets in the area while hypnotic pattern, fear, and fireball can all hit the party with some friendly fire.
