Dancing Tower Shield

First Post
Hey folks,

Just got a wold hair from our party's wizard.

He would like to make a tower shield of Dancing. It wold allow him to have the coverage w/o the need to actually use the shield activly (hence take the spell failure %)

What would be the beans and rice of making this happen (so I can tell him no until he comes up w/ it on his own)

Thanks in advance

There already is such an ability- the animated ability in the DMG- which still causes spell failure, armor check, etc. Unless there's a good reason- I don't think I'd allow such a thing- but if you did, it would have to be at least equivalent to a +4 bonus (double the animated bonus).

Another way of going about it, (I don't have the item creation guideline in front of me or I'd price it) is the normal cost of a +4 shield bonus (think it's armor bonus squared times 1k gp, but with some modifer because its a shield, not armor, bonus). Then try to find an item that grants full cover- I can't think of any, and add that price onto it. Perhaps look at cloak of displacement- which is arguably a weaker item, useable only 15 rounds per day and costing 50k... and double that? So... 100k + (16k*1.5)= 124,000? Still seems cheap for the benefit granted :/

I had a Wizard back in an old 3e game that had a Gorilla familiar named Sprinkles who'd just walk around in front of him holding a tower shield. Same thing you're looking for- but I bet'ch you it's a heck of a lot cheaper/ :p
