Dancing Weapons...

I should know this already, but hey, it's still early and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

Dancing weapons use the BAB of the wielder that loosed them. So, obviously, a dancing sword would have a +17 to hit if loosed by a 17th level fighter. But, does the sword get the extra attacks like the fighter, +17/+12/+7/+2? The description of the dancing enhancement doesn't say that dancing weapons are limited to one attack per round.

If it has the BAB of the wielder, then it would get the iterative attacks.

If it just has the attack bonus, then it wouldn't.

Then it would get the extra attacks. The exact verbage is "It fights for 4 rounds using the base attack bonus of the one who loosed it and then drops."

That explains why it's a +4 market price modifier. Thanks, Cal.

Here's another thing that crossed my mind. I assume that someone could attack your dancing weapon if they wished, using the standard rules for striking an Animated Object (I wouldn't think you'd use the Opponent's Weapons and Shields bit, since the swords are moving and attacking of their own accord). Would a dancing sword get any kind of bonuses or penalties to AC? What kind of size bonus to AC would it get?

Come to think of it, I don't suppose they could disarm you of a dancing weapon, since it isn't being wielded by anyone, rather it is wielding itself, but could you grapple it?

hehe grappling a dancing sword, i like that, grabbing the dancing sword out of the air from the guy and using it on him

Actually, I believe the sword would continue fighting until the 4 rounds had passed, so the grappler would essentially have to pin it. Speakin of which, if you grapple, you can make an attack with a light weapon, so does that mean that a dancing weapon can make an attack against the grappler?

Hmm. I think I'm making this unnecessarily complicated, but still.

If the weapon is merely grappled, then yes, but not if it's pinned.

When the sword is dancing can if fight defensively and if so who gets the bonus to AC, can it be a dancing sword of defense(is that's the name of the ability that lets you put the +s to defense instad of offense) and again if so who gets the bnus ac if its dancing.

Not only that, but how can you grapple a sword that doesn't have a Strength score? You can't disarm a sword from itself either. Hmm. I think I just answered my own questions. :D

Grappling with a blade sounds painful :D
