Dark Inherentance goes Spycraft

Interesting.

I held off buying Dark Inheritance only because I never got around to it. It's been on my buy list for a while. Now it's switching from D20 Modern to Spycraft? I'm surprised. I suppose they didn't sell very well under the D20 Modern rule set so they must see it as easier to convert to another popular system than to try to revive the setting where it is. Add to this the fact that Spycraft is coming out with a second edition and it complicates things even further.

Frankly I'm a little bummed that D20 Modern is not more of a success than it is. It's probably selling well enough but not as well as it expected. That's just a guess. The Weapons Locker seemed like a complete waste when I looked through it at the local gaming shop. That's another one for the loss column. I don't have a lot of experience with either D20M or SC and I'm under the impression that each is better at different things but I'm getting a little tired of all these different rules systems. Variety is good but an excess of variety can create weaknesses in the market as publishers split up the small pool of customers available. Too many choices and no system will be viable.

Personally, I can't wait for D20 Future to come out.

Compared to the D&D fanbase and Star Wars fanbase, it's not much. Probably because a lot of people are still miffed at WotC for dumping Alternity and there other people's perception that making a modern-genre game based on a spawn of D&D ruleset simply does not gel.

Their attempt to lure and expose D&D gamers to d20 Modern through Urban Arcana is pretty much not going too well. The majority of D&D gamers are unfortunately, strictly D&D gamers, and will only buy products if they have two things: D&D and WotC labels.

As much as I hate to admit it, because it may lead WotC toward the same path as TSR (making too many products for so little audience), they have to find its own identity and fanbase.

I believe Dark Inheritance going Spycraft has to do with wanting to tap Spycraft's audience (now that SFA has been canceled that makes a lot of sense) and their joining forces with Scott Gearin (former mechanics lead for said SFA setting).

Given Scott's mastery of the spycraft rules that makes a lot of sense as well.

And here I was finally breaking down and thinking about getting Spycraft. Is there any more info on this new edition?

How about for Stargate?

How similar are the basics of Spycraft and Stargate?

Mainly, because I am really wondering how easy it would be to use this book with the Stargate rulebook?

Or is that just silly? ;)
;)

I've never been interested in Spycraft, despite all the praise for the system because I am not much of a "spyguy."
But I love Stargate and the whole
"Military shooting bad things that want to do 'bad thing things' to the human race" ;)

Spycraft & Stargate are for all intensive purposes interchangeable.

Dark Inheritence likely will be as well.
