Dark Side Sourcebook

Would it be wrong to buy up a bunch of copies locally, then offer then for sale on Amazon at prices ranging between $250 and $2000? People buy the cheapest, thinking they're getting a bargain. ;)

PS For anyone looking to buy these types of books, get hold of someone in Europe to look for you. Just off the top of my head, I know a couple of shops here in the Netherlands still selling them at normal prices.

I'd say--without any ethics training--that's it not wrong. You are not forcing people to buy them, nor are you cheating people (i.e that is a going-rate). Also, the books are apparently a prized item, you are benefiting the consumer by giving them an opportunity to purchase a book they may not.

Of course, the last point is moot given the reprint, but hey, it's business. :heh:

That's fine, but errata should be corrected in reprintings of a book, or at least included as an errata sheet. While the internet alleviates this problem a little bit, it does seem cheap to not include some form of errata in a reprinting.

I would agree. There was much debate over the Monster Manual Special Edition, though, how it included the errata.

Well, "incompatable" is a matter of degrees in this instance. It will probably require the same amount of rejiggering one would expect if using a 3.0 product in a 3.5, I would guess.

If that's the case, then nearly none at all!! That type of converting is easy.

That's the vibe I get from what I've read about the Saga Edition, anyway. I'm sure there will be a bit of tweaking needed, but once you've had a chance to see what changes have been made and why, it should be fairly easy, I would think, to apply the same changes to the Dark Side book.

A lot of neat stuff in that book, isn't there? I like the notion of trying to play an original era Dark Side campaign without stepping on the toes of the two-Sith rule...characters can be Sith-like, or Dark Side force users, or have Sith training, and maybe want to bump off the Emperor or Vader so they can become full Sith and change their name to Darth...

We know it will be incompatable? I've read some changes but nothing that makes me thing I can't alter these older books the same way.

I'm sure it'll be possibly, but the conversion looks like it'll be a lot more complex than OCR->RCR. Removing about half the base classes, changing the dark side point system, and entirely rewriting the force power system is pretty major, in my option.

I have to agree with part of that sentiment, since I spent this past weekend updating a lot of my existing force-using characters and NPCs to use the "Unlearn what you have learned" Force skill variant from Jedi Counseling #65, and finding all the characters had skill points that needed to be accounted for due to the revamp.

Depending on the attack bonus/saving throw/defense progression of the SECR classes, conversions for those characters that made use of the "phased-out" classes could be a nightmare; I'm not looking forward to having to convert any of the tech specialist I've got as the class fits thsoe characters very well, especially the former PC that's a scout/tech specialist mix.
