Dark Sun Alternate History

It took the D&D game back to Pre-Tolkien Sword and Sorcery.

Slavery and the inhumanities inherent therein. The strong own the weak and freedom has to be taken.

Arcane Magic as a destructive and corrupting force. Magic make the world a worse place, not a better one.

No Gods to take interest in the world. One’s success comes from them self, not divine providence.

All rulers are incredibly evil and powerful. Regicide is the answer, but no one has been strong enough and brave enough to do so.

The world is dying. Your deeds can not save it. Your deeds do not make a better Tomorrow, they make a better Today.

Wow...you're really giving BROM a lot of credit.

I like the rewrite in the Dragon/Polyhedron (note: not Dungeon) version. Yes, everything seemed a little bright and shiny and there was a chance, but it got squashed again (except for the city of Tyr). I do think that the psionic races were poorly implemented in the game, but I really like the way they rewrote the races and the Defiling system. There were some editorial mistakes in the game, but nothing really bad.

In short, I like the history as is and wouldn't change it. But then again, maybe the mutant halfling thing was just halfling propaganda.

I missed a sentece i meant to post...

Brom's art cemented the feel of the world without the superfluous sexuality that Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta usually had.

BV and FF are fantastic artists and I love thier wasteland backdrops, but the cheesecake can be unneeded.

Editorial mistakes?

More like an editorial neutering & declawing. The wotc rewriters tore out the setting's teeth and gave it a set of Nerf Dentures.

Darksun as written is in constant flux and change. I enjoyed playing it but found the yearly world changes hard to keep up with so I got away from 'cannon' material. I hinted at it within my Under a Darksun Storyhour and still hope to get back to. The gods are returning. I never reliezed how much I miss the use of gods until I played in campaigns of other worlds. Either the elementals need to be expanded or the return of the gods. I plan on both.

As far as the halfling creators.... So what. If you don't like it then change it / ignore it. I use it but leave room for "error" with the sages.

My biggest issue with the world now is the Dragon Kings. At 40+ levels of character what are my PCs doing? In theory they should know everything going on and squash it quickly. I am working on a means to "remove" the advanced beings from Athas and intro weaker versions.

Other things I am doing, before Eberron was released, I was doing their treatment of domains / dieties. What ever works with your character.

I am hoping to revisit Under a Darksun (in 3.5) but seem just never to have the time.

I wish Darksun was redone and reimagined for 3.5 release. Paizo and Burning Sands of Athas have their versions but mine is easier to run. I really want stats for Tohr-kreen (and figures from DDM line) and some others. Something released more often than once per 18 months.

And I want a large [long] thri kreen.

Mature adult thri-kreen are roughly 7 feet tall at the shoulder and 11 feet long.

When ya want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Here, here! That sounds liek a great idea, nad frankly the more I get to know Dark Sun, the more I like it :) I'm currently going into a DS campaign using athas.org rules, and am playing a Psion, a class I've never played before. New world and completely new class. Should be fun :D

It'd be really nice if WotC would pick it up though and do at least a harcover with an adventure or two alongside it. Give it the FR treatment! Please!
