I preferred the older one for a DM sourcebook, but if it's on the Monster book, maybe that's ok. Keep in mind that maybe they won't have a DM only guidebook. Two books, one of them for monsters.

Thing is, how successful were the Eberron and FR 4e books in terms of selling the campaign sourcebook? I grabbed a copy of the players' guide, but the GM books for either didn't seem that important. Unless the MM is going to have a lot of the secret GM info.

Is the MMDS going to be like the Creature Catalogue for Scarred Lands? relics and rituals, and the creature catalogue/compendium had enough hidden bits of info that they kind of made a setting book on their own.

Chalk up another vote for the old one. It actually oozed "drama" and actually FELT like Dark Sun. The new cover simply says "PC book" to me when in fact it is a monster one.

Much as I liked the Dragon-Pyramid-Critter one, I have to say it belongs more on the Creature Catalog. That said, the new one is appropriate, but I don't like it much -- it isn't as awe inspiring. I wanna Brom cover, darn it! :)

Voted "old"-

As someone only vaguely fam with Dark Sun- that cover oozes "flavor" about the setting.

The new cover-ugh- I don't know if these type covers sell better to younger gamers or what, but they do absolutely nothing to fire my imagination. There is nothing that says " adventure" about them whatsoever-all it says to me is "look at how kewl and bad@$$ we are with our muscles and tats and big weapons".

The best product art for me conveys a scene and oftentimes the adventurers interacting with it- whether it's something old like Glacial Rift, Slave Pits and Descent (blue cover) or something newer like The Sunless Citadel, or any of Peter Mullen's work-especially the covers of S&W, and R&R.

Wotc should stop targetting covers for teens.

The Red Sun over the desert would make the trick. No need of pyramids and "extreme" monsters... :)

Both are fine.

The palette and tone are similar, and that's what I want from Dark Sun: limited palette, grim tone.

Mmmm brom artwork! Someone here also posted a link to a guy with a bunch of darksun concept art. Good stuff, good flavor. I just hope that we don't get Core/FR/Ebb artwork with a muted tone. There was something about the original artwork for dark sun that made me flip through the books and think, "woah." without even reading what it was all about.

I voted for the original artwork we saw after Gen Con (I guess we shouldn't have all assumed that it was the CS cover art), but at least we're getting it with the Creature Catalog.
