Darrington Press has revealed the book covers and release date of its upcoming Hope & Fear expansion for the Daggerheart roleplaying game.

Hope & Fear releases on September 22, and will be available in game stores, and online via DriveThruRPG and Darrington Press' own store.

In addition to the regular book, a deluxe version comes in a box which includes a GM screen, a ton of dice, cards, and tokens. The deluxe version will only be available from Darrington Press directly, either through their Critical Role stores or the Darrington Press store.

Hope & Fear is the first official Daggerheart expansion, and includes new classes, ancestries, adversaries, and more.

Take Daggerheart to new levels with an expansion offering new options for everyone at the table (GMs and players!) and bringing Daggerheart into even more genres than before.

The Daggerheart: Hope & Fear standard edition comes with a book (around 200 pages) and a box containing cards and 2 rip pads of blank adversary sheets!

Inside the book, you’ll find:
  • New character options, including 4 new classes: the Witch, Warlock, Brawler, and Assassin, each with 2 unique subclasses!
  • 130+ new adversaries and 28 environments, plus a rip pad of blank adversary sheets to help you easily create your own
  • 100+ weapons, armor, item, and consumable options
  • 4 new Campaign Frames introducing new worlds and settings for you to explore
The cards include:
  • A completely new Dread Domain set of cards, unlocking ghastly, macabre magic core to the new Witch and Warlock classes.
  • Subclass Cards for all 8 new subclasses
  • 6 Transformation Cards: A completely new mechanic, transformations represent changes or augmentations to characters in Daggerheart. During a campaign or at character creation, transform into a Vampire, Werewolf, Reanimated, Shapeshifter, Ghost, or Demigod!
  • 6 new Community Cards: Duneborne, Hearthborne, Frostborne, Warborne, Freeborne, and Reborne
  • 6 new Ancestry Cards: Skykin, Tidekin, Earthkin, Emberkin, Gnome, and Aetheris

I pre-ordered it shortly after it was announced and am looking forward to the new book. I really hope that we see a few more books added to the product list, as well as the GM Screen they mentioned a while back (not getting the collector's box). I would kind of like to see more cards come out for classes that we already have, allowing for additional options, and maybe something new like the before-mentioned setting book(s) or even a full bestiary of just monsters and encounters.

Same. I would love some of the extra bits and the GM Screen, but with the regular book cover. I hope they release the GM screen separately this time (which I find so strange they didn’t do with the previous one).
That is the plan, they are going to release a GM screen, it was announced at the same time as Hope & Fear last year, but still no details on when and how much.

Dominik Mayer is great.

In case you felt the art feeling familiar its cause he did a truckload of Magic: The Gathering art, especially around when WotC was brewing up Strixhaven and experimenting with new artstyles before the release in April 2021 (which coincides with the @mearls era, fun fact!)

I want the deluxe version but with the standard cover...

I just feel the standard covers both in this and the original game have more of the mood of the game in them.
Since I like both the special edition and regular covers of the Kobold Press books the way I square the circle is to enjoy the regular cover in the PDF and the special edition as the physical book. Luckily I don't have the OCD that many in the hobby seem to have around whether the covers match. I have regular edition, pocket edition, and special edition books across D&D, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Cosmere, and Tales of the Valiant.

if you compare to Tales of the Valiant, Nimble v2, or Draw Steel, Daggerheart seems to be more or less on track for how long it takes to add new player options/items/books
