dark vision

First Post
hi guys
a rogue in our group is looking for a night vision magical item, however the googles from the core books are both too good and too expansive for us (6th level, low to medium power)
any suggestions?
i was thinking about limited range, my friend suggested limited use per day, our DM is still thinking about it.
thanks :)

How about a downside? Such as only works when it is dark ;)

On a more serious note I play a lot of Iron Kingdoms and they have a nice approach I like, for those that aren't familiar with the system the magic is battery powered (a gross over simplification but it'll do). It has a few charges then needs to be repowered. Hardly expensive but is time consuming waiting a few days for it to be topped up. Give it say 5 charges and requires a small expenditure of mystical whatever worth (GM mood depending)gp, a lab of some sort and a week to recharge. Hardly a huge downside if it is only a few gp but there never seems to be a lab around when you want one.

hey nice idea :)
thanks for the input anyway, i'll try and think of a downside more appropriate to our game. having it only work in the dark isnt that great but the recharge idea sounds good.

Those goggles are based off a 2nd level spell, darkvision. I'm sure I've seen a first level spell somewhere which grants low-light vision; an item based off that spell would be correspondingly cheaper.

scout's headband Magic Item Compendium page 132 gets you darkvision for up to 3 hours a day, as well as a few other features. 3,400gp
