Darkness & Reflex

If a Black Dragon slaps a Darkness on the party then uses its Blindsight to breath acid at them, is their a modifier/penalty to their Reflex saves? I mean, they can't see which way to jump. Just curious.

No penalty. It can make sense either way IMO.

I think the idea is to define saves as a fundamentally instinctual defense that is rarely or never affected by circumstance modifiers.

You don't get bonuses to save from the Fireball when you know it is coming. You don't get a bonus to save against Hold when you know the Evil Cleric is about to cast it on you. Therefore you do not get penalties if you do not see the dragon breathe beforehand.

That may or may not make sense to you, but it is eminently fair and playable.

From the SRD:

Blinded
The character cannot see at all, and thus everything has full concealment to him. He has a 50% chance to miss in combat, loses his positive Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), and grants a +2 bonus on attack rolls to enemies that attack him, just as if all his enemies were invisible. He moves at half speed and suffers a -4 penalty on most Strength and Dexterity-based skills. He cannot make Spot skill checks or perform any other activity (such as reading) that requires vision.

Search has added as a skill that gets a -4 penalty.
