How do you intend to affix them? Sorry if I'm being s bit pedantic but desert life is hard! Only the ingenuous survive. Making any sort of precise holes in the shell will be difficult due to lacking a drill but it would be possible to make holes.

The plates presumably have irregularities we can loop straps around, or even just around the plates themselves.

Or I have a hunting trap. If it's a clampy type deal, we could 'spring' it on the hide so it clamps on, then use ropes tied to the trap to pull it all along. lol
