Darn it, it's hard not to mourn for your bad guys!

As for the Ultralithid.... maybe when he died his essence was transfered into this force that reveals secrets. Perhaps the next PC who has a secret revealed or something like that also catches the Ultralithid's essence. Now THAT is going to make for some interesting Will saves throughout the campaign ;)

Ooh... Wolf in the Fold, Star Trek TOS Episode.

Hypersmurf, I have to say you just jumped waaaay up on the cool meter with that one. Always good to see a fellow TOS fan.

Wolf in the Fold was good, but if you want a REALLY good Jack story, I'd suggest using the B5 one or the Outer Limits one.

You spend more than an hour prepping a really good villain. He's quite effective in his initial attack, but he's eventually forced to retreat to his demplane lair. The heroes follow him unexpectedly, manage to catch him off guard, prevent him from fleeing, mass dominate his lackeys. . .

And down he goes in a single round.

*sob* I loved you, little ultralithid! You were the best lil' squid-head ever! *sob*

PC,

He's not gone, he's just ready to be True Rezzed :)

Spring him on your party later when they have thier collective pants down. I've got the same problem in my campaign, make em up to watch them get killed in 20 minutes.

I don't know the Outer Limits one. But the B5 one doesn't have anything to do with Piratecat's demiplane.

In WitF, when Rejack has nowhere else to go, his consciousness flees to the Enterprise computer. Presumably from there, he could have possessed anyone else whose drugs wore off...

I can just see Piratecat's squiddy deliberately transferring his personality into the walls as he died... and from there, taking up residence in the background of one of the PC's minds.

And then, over the course of the next few sessions, the player gets passed notes like "That guy's got a big head. Looks yummy."

Yeah but that's kind of a cheap "comic book style" way of getting back a villain. What you SHOULD do is have him come back as a ghost or some other undead.

Actually, it was a really fun game. The PCs are in a mindflayer-controlled psi-active demiplane. The walls of solidified thought actually pick up secrets from people and radiate them.

I had each player email me four secrets that their character had. I took them (along with NPC secrets), printed them, cut them apart, and put them in a basket. When the group did certain things, they absorbed some of the thought from the walls around them and got to draw a slip of paper from the big basket 'o' secrets. The result was very successful, and it will certainly result in some interesting discussions later... :D

*sigh* I wish I could think of interesting things to happen to my players. Damnit, I want more creativity!!! P-Kitty, can I have your brain if I murde....er...i um...er... if you were to meet an untimely end? :D
