Darvin was born of Tiran and Leenia Tallcastle in Harrowdale. Tiran owned and ran a bar that also offered rooms for the night. Leenia helped him by serving drinks, her parents where farmers who worshiped Chauntea and becomes they worshiped Chauntea so did Leenia and Darvin took it after he, although neither Darvin nor his mother was particularly devoted.
As a child Darvin was rather shy and so did not make a lot of friends. He also helped Tiran a lot with the bar, for what it was worth as he had bad memory and seemed to lack common sense. Tiran first thought Darvin hopeless at first (except when it came to brewing, Darvin had taken a liking for brewing alcoholic brewages even if he never got to taste them) but he stopped fearing that was the case as Darvin quickly actually became a help. Indeed both Tiran and Leenia became very impressed by their son when he at the age of 13 could speak Damaran fluently. He had learned it from a Damaran warrior named Garivan Tistelson. Garivan frequently visited Tirans bar (Named: The Happy Bear) when he was in Harrowdale; he worked as a merchants guard.
When Darvin was 15, most who knew him also knew that he was not content with just helping his father run the bar. So Tiran arranged it so that his friend, the half-elven expert huntsman Iren Tyrvan (who also spent a lot of time at The Happy Bear) would teach his son to hunt. Darvin found hunting quite a bit better then working at the bar and Iren was impressed how quick he learned the basics of Tracking and hunting. Indeed Iren decided to teach Darvin his speciality, which he was well known for. Iren did occasionally form hunting parties, drow hunting parties. So Iren thought Darvin how to hunt drow, from countering their fighting styles to their anatomy as well as their language.
17 was an age that was very exciting to Darvin. First he met Miri, the love of his life. She was the daughter of a Carpenter. She was nice, outgoing and unlike Darvin she had a good memory. Why she loved him Darvin often wondered but they had little trouble between them and few could say they did not love each other greatly. Second, Iren recognized that Darvin knew almost as much as him about fighting drow and was a great archer too. So Iren organized a hunt and let Darvin come (Although Miri was greatly worried she did not express her concern as she knew that this was Darvins moment of recognition by someone he admired). The hunt lasted 4 days and they encountered just one party of three drow that they defeated with only one death and three wounded, Darvin was among neither but did place an arrow through the heart of one of the Dark Elves.
A month after he had turned 19 everything changed, it was just 6 months left until he was supposed to marry Miri. A wizard named Rahnon lived in the village, he was a nice man and much liked by the children has when he was in a good mood he would sometimes create minor magic shows, while liked by Darvin as he was by most they where not actual friends. The wizard tried something that was beyond him, he tried to open a portal to another plane and failed utterly. He ended up being possessed by a demon, and a bloodthirsty one at that.
Miris mother was at the Happy Bear to tell Miri that it was getting late and time to come home when Rahnon entered the bar. The possessed wizard unleashed his deadly magic; killing Miris mother, Darvins Parents, Iren and several other patrons. Miri was overwhelmed by terror and simply collapsed in a corner, but Darvin who had been thought by Iren to swallow his fear and he simply stood before Miri, determined to protect her as much as he could without his equipment. He was silently praying that the wizard had spent his magic’s. He had not however and sent a bolt of crackling lighting Darvins way who was the only one still standing. The bolt should have killed him but it did not, it was simply absorbed by Darvin, which surprised them both. Darvin felt the energy tingling within him and simply released it towards the possessed wizard. Fire erupted from him and sent the wizard to the afterlife. Darvin immediately dragged all the bodies out (only two of them was alive, other then Darvin and Miri, one of them died later) before the fire that Rahnon had created turned into an inferno.
Darvin got to live with Miris (rather rich) father after that, their life was not good however. Miris father as well as Darvin was grieving constantly and Miri barely showed that she even recognized the presence of anyone. Miris father and Darvin got over it after a while however but Miri showed no sign of improvement, they got worried but nothing they tried worked. They where told that it was the combination of fear and shock. Garivan, the Damaran warrior, came to town a few months later and learned what happened offered Darvin to come with him. Darvin feeling completely helpless where now was agreed. And so he followed Garivan and his employees trade journeys between Harrowdale and Damara. Garivan continued Darvins training but in a different direction, he focused on melee, which Darvin quickly learned that he preferred. Garivan though Darvin how to use his agility to his advantage as well as how to talk in a way that he could get people to what they want. Darvin also obtained a book on how to fight spellcasters, for the event with the wizard had made him think that arcane magic corrupts and decided that he wanted to protect others from those wielding these terrible powers, he also learned how to use his Spellfire that he thought was a gift granted by the gods that he could use to battle the wielders of the arcane, he simply called it Mages Bane. Whenever he was in Harrowdale he visited Miri although she showed very little signs of improvement, her condition improved a little bit however but it was just enough so she would occasionally speak a few words to those around her . After about a year of this life, he Darvin decided to set out on a journey both to destroy the corrupt wielders of the arcane and find a cure for Miris condition.
Miris father wanted Miri to come with Darvin, as he could not work as much and thus earned less money then before and he could simply not support them both much longer. Darvin was highly concerned with Miris safety however as travelling can be dangerous and did not want her to come with him for that reason, the argument was settled when Miri said “I think leaving Harrowdale would be a good idea…”
She had not spoken a longer sentence since her mothers death and both Darvin and Miris father took it as a good sign and so Darvin took Miri with her. He received a lot of money to prepare for the journey, 220 golden lions. Darvin used the money to buy horses and riding gear as well as a tent and bedrolls, before he bought the food he would need he was approached by a cleric of Shaundakul, Yrlin Olstad who had been a friend of Darvins mother. Yrlin was travelling around the dalelands most of her time and had just recently heard of Darvins plans, feeling sorry for the boy she gave him a gift: A cloak that removes many of the discomforts and difficulties of travel. Assuring Darvin that it was created by a cleric of her faith Darvin accepted the generous gift, he had never actually seen such a powerful magic item in his entire life.
He tolerates arcane spellcasters that does not use their powers for destruction as he hopes that not all of them will be corrupted, he is completely unable to trust them however. He also refuses to use any magic items unless he is absolutely sure they where created using divine magic.
He has nothing against divine magic users as he thinks having to answer to a higher power protects them from corruption, he do dislike divine magic users of arcane powers (such as Mystra, Azuth and Shar) almost as much as arcane users themselves though.
