tallarn started a thread at randomlings house entitled "christmas carol casting" and it has me thinking about a baddie castign a spell one someone to make them start singing. their singing would act as a low level charm spell to get others to join them. it could draw on the
latent sorcerous ability described in the banewarrens

this group would grow and grow, unable to do anything but wander the streets merrily singing as they waste away.

the first time the pc's see them they appear to be merry carollers, the next ttime they are a larger group,a dn look more haggard. it gets creepier as you go, with the carollers unwilling to stop, and attracting more and more to their number continually.

can anyone add to this? attach mechanics? critique?

You can make it a low DC save so that commoners are likely to fail while PCs save or make it only affect up to a certain number of hit dice creatures so that the PCs don't get caught up in it but see it happening.

Sounds like charm plague from the Dragon Kings Dark Sun Setting with more of a negative effect. Maybe make it a type of potent curse so a simple dispel magic does not work and break enchantment only works on one target at a time. As a curse, maybe have something in the carols be a clue on a way to break it.

increasing the dc (slowly, per dozen people or so) and hidden clues in the carols are perfect touches i hadn't considered, thanks!

That's messed up, dude. I like it!

I like the low save idea...so that PCs get past it, but it catches commoners. The PC's won't be able to help but get freaked out by a bunch of scary song-slingers...

Just one question, why did someone cast this spell to begin with? What do they get out of it?

edit: Er, so it's two questions.
