This is sad news indeed. Those images of his still shape the game for myself and friends after all these years.

David's work was one of the earliest influences on my gaming in the old days, and inspired me to stay with a hobby that has bought me pleasure for years. David will have touched many peoples lives in some sense.

I wish to pass my condolences to his family. Rest In Peace.

I would also like to add my condolences to the friends and family of David C. Sutherland III. Like many others here, the illustrations he supplied in the 1st Ed. D&D inspired my imagination as a child and many of those classic images are still vivid in my mind.

Though David's art was from before I found D&D, having seen his work in the books I own he was an iconic artist. Hopefully, he's in his next life, entertaining people with more works of fantasy.

Sad news. At least he had an upturn at the end of his life - if one has to go early, it's better to know how much one affected other people's lives. It sounds like he was able to draw strength from that in the end, and for his sake, I'm grateful for that.
