Grim news....his family has my sympathy and condolences.

I don't think I can san anything greater than what was already said:

"His work is the canvas of our youth and fond sentiments."

His artwork helped our imaginations take flight.

Like so many others have said, his artwork was a defining characteristic of D&D for me -- so many iconic images from the game were his.

Just a suggestion - if anyone wants to donate money to a worthy cause, setting up a memorial in his name is good, but a donation to his family might be better, because according to the article, he was selling a large number of his original artworks last year to pay for some medical expenses and leaving a family legacy, and $22,000 dollars was raised. $22,000 is a lot, but where expenses are concerned I doubt it's a WHOLE lot. Paul Stormberg would likely have more details.

Anonymous Reader Reports: I have some profoundly sad news to report. David C. Sutherland III passed away sometime Tuesday in his residence in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. While his health had been in sharp decline, he was fairly active in his last days and was taking good care of himself. Thus, his death comes as sudden and unexpected.
