Picked up Dawn of War a couple of weeks ago and have been playing it off and on and have to say I am still undecided if I like it.
The game is RTS and in the easiest setting means you can win by shear numbers, this changes in hard and insane levels of the game where you have too build and plan your attacks, strenghting your troops and just start to wear them down.
The game has too forms, Campiagn and Skirmish. Campiagn being the long drawn out war and skimish being a battle with no ties. You can play any one of the 40K groups, Space Marine, Choas Marine, Eldar, ORK, and DWARF. Each race has different abilities. Buildings are standard with different appearances on each side, but tech while producing the same effect is different. You gain resources by capturing strategic points on the maps.
Game is also multi-player.
Pros: The game is addictive and rather fun to watch, seeing Orks being blow sky high from land mines is just cool.
Cons: RTS - I dislike them, while DoW does not really have too many building to build and different troop types you still have to feed the ques, moving from the battle field to each building to make sure all is well, DoW has shortcuts to help this but it is a drawback of RTS.
Note: Been playing a skirmish game in different levels, in the easy level won by overpowering my foes, in the hard levels had to build picket line to build my forces (depending on mine fields and turrets) then taking the next point and then strenghtening it before moving on. In hard I took and lost a point seven times and won by peforming a two prong attack on my foe.
