Dawning Star, opinions?

If you had to give a rough ratio of fluff:crunch, what would you place Dawning Star: OQL?

As starships are a primary element of sci-fi settings, do you have an up to date ETA on the release of Silver Eclipse?
The problem with a fluff to crunch ratio is that there's a good bit of fluff embedded in some of the crunch entries, e.g., prestige/advanced class descriptions, xenomorph descriptions, etc. So, without being too scientific about it, I'd peg it at pretty close to 50/50.

As for Silver Eclipse, we agree on its immediate relevance, which is why we're planning on releasing it next, after Helios Rising.

What are all the books in the Dawning Star line and what do each of the books provide to the gamer? How much are they?

Just a couple questions a curious mind wants to know. :)

Operation Quck Launch is the setting introduction, focusing on the planet Eos. For the GM it provides the backstory for the setting, tons of adventure ideas, xenomorphs, and a full-length introductory adventure. For players and GMs, as Phill already was kind enough to note, it's got a ton of crunchy bits you can use in most any sci-fi campaign: feats, occupations, talent trees, advanced/prestige classes, gear, etc.

Shadow Falling is a full-length adventure module that includes 6 maps, 2 pages of printable counters, a bunch of extra side treks, and -- oh yeah -- a great adventure.

Helios Rising expands the setting to the rest of the Helios system with each chapter dedicated to a different planet or system feature. It's been delayed because we decided to expand it to give a full treatment, which means 350+ pages. As with OQL, HR has much for GMs and players alike. There are something like 9 playable PC species. I don't have a final count on the crunchy bits, but the book's huge. Not Ptolus huge--but huge.

The next two books we'll be working on are Silver Ecilpse, wherein we redesign the d20 starship construction and combat rules from the ground up and provide sample spacecraft for each of the major xenomorph cultures, and Shadow War, our mega-adventure on the order of Slavelords of Cydonia. Beyond that, we've got plans for books dedicated to some of the major locales and PC species, a "monster manual" with tons of new xenomorphs, and more adventures. OTOH, I'm always willing to listen to requests and suggestions from the fans.

For all our products (including Helios Rising), you can download free demos on our website.

Hope that helps.

Will all these be written by that AMAZING writer who created the setting, Lee Hammock? ;)

Why yes, Louis, they will be.

(That's something of an inside joke, as Louis was kind enough to put me in touch with Lee, who is indeed amazing or, as I've called him, the "Hemmingway of RPGs.")

This is the best sci-fi game that I have seen in many years.

Its well written with a really interesting & logical setting combined with a few tweaks to the rules that really enhance game play. There is a rustic almost "western" feel to the setting that reminds me of Firefly / Serenity.

I really could gush about it for a long time, but instead I'll just say that if you are looking for a fun, consistent and immersive sci-fi setting that offers some great opportunity for adventure, then do yourself a favor and take a look at Dawning Star.

All this sounds like a really cool sci-fi game, one I am sure I'm going to pick up eventually. :)
If you do, be aware of our unwritten promotion whereby I send free pdf copies to anyone who buys one of the print books. Just drop me a line.
