I say we all move to Arizona.
Or Hawaii. They also refrain from this particular foolishness.

I think DST was originally a Nazi innovation to allow more daylight work hours for munitions and other factory workers.

Nope, it predates the Nazi's but the reason is correct, just one War earlier.

Benjamin Franklin, when serving as U.S. minister to France, wrote an article recommending earlier opening and closing of shops to save the cost of lighting. In England, William Willett in 1907 began to urge the adoption of daylight saving time. During World War I the plan was adopted in England, Germany, France, and many other countries. In the United States, Robert Garland of Pittsburgh was a leading influence in securing the introduction and passage of a law (signed by President Wilson on Mar. 31, 1918) establishing daylight saving time in the United States. After World War I the law was repealed (1919). In World War II, however, national daylight saving time was reestablished by law on a year-round basis. National year-round daylight saving time was adopted as a fuel-saving measure during the energy crisis of the winter of 1973–74. In late 1974, standard time was reinstituted for the winter period. In 1987 federal legislation fixed the period of daylight saving time in the United States as the first Sunday (previously the last Sunday) in April to the last Sunday in October. Arizona, Hawaii, and sections of Indiana do not use daylight saving time.

Out of interest in the UK and Europe we went forward one hour the Easter weekend, so the US timezone to Europe offsets have been one hour different all last week.

Yup. Wife will be late for work. She left at 6:45 for her 6:30 start. Happens every year.

I can't say I was much better. I was wondering why the computer and wall clock didn't agree. Oye!

I overslept as well and was also late for work this morning. Was supposed to be there at 6AM and got there around 6:25. :\

My computer completely changes the time. XP doesn't even prompt you with a "reminder" like 98 does. This and my alarm are the onlyh one's I've changed so far...... Basically, I only changed, last night, what NEEDED to be changed AT THE TIME. ;) I don't even bother with the clock in the car at all.

That's what I thought. Somewhere in the mid-80's American history was rewritten to make it look like Carter caused the oil crises. It's almost like Nixon and Kissinger were never there. :\

Isn't there also like one town in Ohio that doesn't observe DST. I remember going through there many years ago and being confused by it.

Indiana doesn't observe it as well. We found that out the "hard" way 3 yrs ago when going for SW Celebration II. Gave us extra time to get there and stuff! :)

It's just like finding out that New Jersey didn't have sales tax..... :)

Well, this isn't exactly an oil crisis like the ones of the 70's. Back then, OPEC was putting us to the screw and actually withholding oil. There were gas lines because there wasn't enough to go around. Not a pricing issue. The current problem has more to do with commodities markets and major refineries hedging their bets.
