Daylight vs Deeper Darkness

DM is your fr'i'end you MUST trust him if he kills whole party you can always gang up and bit him irl :)
And on the very beging of DMG there is rule that DM can change any rule as he wants. I think he can't change only the rule that he can change rules.
DM is the man whos work is to make sure you have fun.
At last 2-3 time i saw how bending changing rules were really awesom idea and gave us (players) some fun.
Quarrels about rules are really poitless and west of time.
If you decide that he can't dispel your daylight spell sudenly tunel might 'accidentaly' colapse killing you all :) IMHO i would choose to get daylight dispeled anyday :P

Darkness (20'r) > Flare, Light, Dancing Lights
Darkness (20'r) = Daylight (2nd 60'r)
Daylight (3rd 60'r) > Darkness (20'r)
Daylight (3rd 60'r) = Deeper Darkness (3rd 60'r)

The range of all these spells is touch so if you want to 'dispel' another effect, you are going to have to touch the item that has the spell on it.

To 'counter' a spell, the areas just need to overlap and the effects are both negated in that overlapping area (as long as they are overlapping).

Spells that may help vs darkness.
Dispel Magic on item that darkness was cast on. (Use Detect Magic to see magical glow) Going to be slow and take a lot of spells if the place is packed with darkness items.
Antimagic Field - Helps against darkness, dragon breath, and demonic possession... very nice defensive spell. :D
Faerie Fire - Outlines creatures in a pale glow. Be sure to make that listen check to find where to cast the spell.
True Seeing - See through magical and non-magical darkness.

Gee, that was a shorter list that I though it would be...

Hope that helps.

Like Doorf says, you may not want to fight it too hard, DM may have a reason for it. (If he is just an ass, then a TPW may give you the motivation to get a new DM)

BTW, the baddies in one of the campaigns I'm currently in have been using Deeper Darkness a lot. I'm playing a sorcerer, and, on a number of occassions I've just cast dispel magic to find the object with the DD on it, and covered or burried it. Yeah, it takes 3 rounds to find it, but it's something. If you're making your way through a dungeon full of DD effects, you can cover the items it's been placed on or place them in a light-proof container.
