DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Issue #3

Lorenzo Reynolds HPs: 2/2

Andrew said:
"You want some?", handing the bags of peanuts to Lorenzo. "You are ok? You think you can keep driving?"
"Yeah, sure. Thanks," Lorenzo replied, taking some of the offered peanuts. "I can keep driving no problem. I haven't even gotten close to being on autopilot while driving just yet."

Lorenzo munched a couple peanuts, giving himself a few moments to think before offering, "I know where we're supposed to head next," Lorenzo leaned in close to say quietly, "Rest stop just before Anne Kingston Exit."

"Too bad my car is a classic," Lorenzo commented, "I don't have an on-star or any other on-board computer to tell me how far to go that is . . . or the best way to get there."

"Yeah, I was wondering too how much time it would take to reach our destination... you don't have a simple road map of USA? I'll go check if there is one in the truck." Andrew walks back to the truck and open the passenger door and start to looks for a map.

Eleyna Robertson

"Too bad my car is a classic," Lorenzo commented, "I don't have an on-star or any other on-board computer to tell me how far to go that is . . . or the best way to get there."

Eleyna got out of the car to stretch for a few minutes before they had to hit the road again. She was still very much shaken by the attack at the gas station, but she tried to put it past her for now, to stay concentrated on her friends and how they were doing. She thought it might be the only thing keeping her sane at the moment. All this and her head was throbbing again, too.

"Hey Jenn, how're you holding up with driving? I could take over for awhile, if you want."

Andrew pulled out a map from the Coach's truck and he and Lorenzo opened it up across the hood of Lorenzo's car. They mapped their progress so far, noting where they had been at breakfast and the gas station a few hours earlier. A few of the others joined in as Andrew concentrated on going over what he received from the Coach and what that meant on a map. It looked like they were taking an indirect course that would take longer but keep them out of main cities and routes of travel. Within a day, maybe 2 they would make it to Canada. If they didn't have to stop to eat, refuel or rest it would be a day. With everything they had experienced, no one seemed eager to push through. They all seemed to just be moving along, waiting for the end.

Gabe fiddled with the radio and was able to pick up twice as many stations as they had been getting. The local cattle report was interrupted by a story about an explosion at a gas station outside of Osier, Pennsylvania. Reports were mixed but it sounded like a group of locals had tried to stop some unregistered mutants who choose to blow up the gas station rather than be taken into custody for proper registration. Actual numbers were still unknown however, there were several dead and at least that many wounded.

The report ended with, "Anyone with information related to this incident or noticing anything out of the ordinary should contact their local law enforcement post with details immediately." It seemed this area of the country was not used to mutants running around, flying through the air. They saw it on the news and read about it but now that it was happening right in front of them, they were definitely panicking.

As the report finish at the radio, Andrew fold the map and put it back in the car. He say, almost whispers to the others. "I don't want to rush, but I would like to make as much distance as possible between us and that gas station..."

"I agree, Andrew," Lorenzo replied. "but, we'll need to stop, eat, and get some rest as well. Where's the rest stop coash told me about?"

Kyle Graham, hp:2/2

Kyle growls as he looks upfrom the ruins of the detector and his gear. "I hate this.. I mean we didn't ASK for them to attack us. Sure.. there was an explosion an all, but if they had waited till we were on the road it woulnd't have happened." He smacks his fist on the dashboard, "It wasn't our fault, they attacked us like we're.. rabid dogs or something."

He growls again and gets up, stalking off. Clearly he's still upset by the gas station event.

Andrew puts his hand on Kyle shoulder. "Calm down. It is not your fault. It is the fault of no one here. Things hasn't turned the way we like it. It is not easy and things won't go as we wish from now on. It is a new world we have entered and we will have to learn much about it and about ourselves. Coach believe in us enough to gamble his safety for ours. We won't let him lose his gamble. We will first reach the meeting place. There we will see what coach expected us to do and we will decide what path to follow."

Andrew wait a moment for Kyle to calm down. He then turn to Lorenzo. "I saw it on the map. I expect we will reach it before nightfall if we don't waste too much time. Even with what happen today, the morning may seem now pretty far, but we didn't lost much time. We looks like in time. And I suggest we stop to talk about all those events outside the cars. I wouldn't like to see any eavesdropper to signal us."

Stepping up and out of the car Gabe stretched as high as he could letting out something like a sqeek.

As he walked by Eleyna he gave her hand a squeeze and shot her a smile. The smile didn't quite make it to his eyes. Gabe shuffled over to the map and started to look over it.

"We could switch drivers, that should cut down our time. Right?"

"I suppose," Lorenzo replied, with a laugh in his voice,"but I'm the only one driving my car. We'll need the rest. I don't think we want to be too tired if or when we cross the border. Probably be an exciting time there."
