DDI 1/18 Update Delayed

I just find it odd that certain people managed to fix all the bugs, and fully update the old CB in 2 weeks, though it isn't legit. Still, it's the principle.

WotC hasn't been able to get this thing working in over 2 months.

This just in: ships captured by somalian pirates are 20% as fast as normal vessels. Shipping lines ponder new hiring procedures.

I am seriously not asking for non-legit links, but I do want to ask HOW you're convinced they are totally accurate. How much testing has gone into these 'home versions'? Do the programs actually emulate Essentials vs. old 4e, etc.

If they are that good, I wish WotC would those people as freelancers!

They aren't totally accurate, but they are constantly improving it in response to user feedback, and bugs are fixed very quickly (often the same day they're found). It's not perfect; you could argue that it has no worse bugs than what WotC left in the program itself.

They are using the shell of the old CB and basically modifying its database on the fly. It also now supports a lot of 3PP content as well.

Maybe Enworld should hook up with them for Zeitgeist to get the PP's and other new items into the CB, unless that violates the GSL...

Well, another missed date. At least they're honest...Dice4Hire I really don't think you should be criticizing other posters for complaining about missed deadlines for a product they pay for. People pay their money and have every right to be disappointed when a company provides an "upgrade" with less functionality or misses updates...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: WotC should throw all of its development resources at creating an API for third-party developers to use their rules database. Put in whatever restrictions are necessary to satisfy the anti-piracy maniacs--require authentication with a DDI account to grant access, et cetera--but otherwise, open it up. Then sit back and let the fans build a better Character Builder (and Monster Builder and VTT and half a dozen apps we haven't even thought of yet) than Wizards is ever going to make.

When you have a fanbase as tech-savvy, creative, and dedicated as that of D&D, it's insane not to look for ways to leverage that.

I knew you would be here soon, Joe.

As has been posted many a time, if you don't like the tone of a thread, don't hop on in.

As has been posted many a time, the people bitching about the people bitching are well, bitching about bitching and adding to the overall entertainment value no?

If somoene knows a thread is going to be about a certain subject and it isn't one you care about save to pop in and make snide comments about, then people shouldn't be surprised when those comments in turn have snide comments made about them.

A million times yes to this. It's really such a no-brainer that I've been mystified why they didn't do this 2 years ago. WotC is not a software development company, and they shouldn't try to be. They are, however, traffickers in information, and they're damn good at that. They need to stick to what they do best, and let people who know how to develop software serve up the front end.
