DDI Survey Results posted

Personally, most of the comments I heard on the WOtC DDI forums were of the "WotC hasn't told us if they are committed to working on further DDI tools or not". For me, this survey prety much answers the question with a defiinitive yes. I understand how the answers aren't as definitive as some people would have liked, but at the same time, I understand why WotC would not want to give out details of just what their next tool will be until it is further along the production path.

I like the fact that they published the results.

I'm surprized that the virtual table ranked lower (in percentage) than some other features. I do want a virtual table sooner rather than later, but I'd also like to see the other popular features as well.

In the meantime, I'll just keep using Maptool.

Then really, how hard is it to just answer with a simple yes or no, that they are or aren't still working on a given part of the originally promised DDI features. They don't even have to say which one is next, or when it's going to be out, just that development is ongoing versus they've cancelled it. That they continue to dance around the question is telling to me.

Silly Shemmy,

It's always best to answer with corporate-speak, rather than give an honest and forthright answer.

It's as though you expect them to say something, and then do the very thing that they say.

No. Not nearly enough room to maneuver if they were actually upfront and/or clear.

;)

You mean something like this:
Based on our analysis of the survey data and customer feedback, we have already begun work on applications for your campaigns. This includes monsters, encounters, maps and adventures.

They never actually said what they're working on specifically. They didn't actually say if they are or aren't going to ever finish the original Dungeon Builder, Virtual Tabletop, or Character Visualizer.

It's a pretty generic 'trust us' response with plenty of wiggle room for them to drop elements of the original DDI plans.
Except for this part:

D&D Insider Survey Results said:

This matches up nicely with these two poll questions:

* Tool to create and manage campaign info
* Tool to customize and print monsters

Which were voted on by 83% and 82% of subscribers and 52% and 55% of non-subscribers, so that looks like they are actually doing something and it isn't a 'trust us' response at all.

EDIT: Ninja'd by mudbunny

I do find it hilarious that people are acting like this is a great move by WotC... when it isn't an actual commitment to anything.

That's exactly why it makes me feel better about their direction.

Wizards promised tons of stuff which they couldn't deliver. Now they're sharing info without promising anything. That tells me they're being a lot more realistic about their capabilities, which makes me feel better that they'll be able to deliver something.

The other thing I like about this is that Wizards is looking at a survey which aligns pretty well with what I'd like to see. If they bother to follow it, they're likely going to be able to build stuff I want.

I'd kind of like a virtual tabletop, preferably one connected to the DDI and connected to a tool for meeting other DDI users who want to play games on the virtual tabletop.

Don't know if it will ever happen, but it would be neat.
