Of course its hard to derive specifics from DDM stats. But I like the gist of what I'm seeing.

Some per encounter abilities can be used more than once per encounter. Is this innate to the ability? Or are they just being selected more than once?

There are two clerics, one which has a weapon and a shield, the other which has a weapon and holy symbol. The former has more healing spells and melee strength, the latter has more attack spells. This bodes well, in my opinion. I like to see diversity of build reflected in gear choices.

There are a couple of archers. One gets special attacks on bloodied targets. The other gets attacks which create benefits for allies if they hit. The former is more a "striker" type ability, while the latter is more "leader" or "controller." Does this suggest some overlap in roles? Or is the latter not the sort of thing a Ranger might have?

The Halfling Enchanter is interesting. Very interesting. Does this outline what we might expect from a mentalist type character? A mindblast, with per encounter mind effecting rider abilities? This miniature "feels" almost more like a psion to me, in that it kills people with its mind.

Sneak attack triggers from combat advantage, and some creatures don't grant combat advantage. But we've been told that you can sneak attack most anything now. Did that really mean ALMOST anything, with some exceptions? Or is it that some monsters don't grant combat advantage, but you can sneak attack them through some other method, possibly involving setups using per encounter abilities?

Tieflings, or possibly clerics, can get fire resistance. Probably tieflings.

In another thread we were discussing how poison and disease would be handled in 4e. The mummy's attack causes "ongoing" necrotic damage. This is probably our answer. The astral stalker refers ongoing poison damage as well.

The Osyluth has a per encounter ability that recharges on a trigger. Interesting.

Instead of automatically doing half damage on a missed area of effect attack that targets a reflex save, the Boneshard Skeleton deals a third damage. And the damage is spelled out in his description, suggesting that maybe its not always 1/3. Maybe it varies by attack.

"Followup" is a keyword that damage can have. Its the secondary poison effect on the Naga.

There's probably more of interest in there, but that's all I've got.

Has anyone figured out why attacks against a Defense are sometimes listed as "vs Ref" and sometimes listed "vs DEF(Ref)"? Look at the Large fire elemental as an example

Typo, probably. Of course, sit the stat blocks don't break down the Defenses, I don't know why it specifies at all.

Some creatures have bonuses against certain defenses. Animated Statue, a construct, has +4 DEF (Fort) for example.

Also remember that all of these monsters, except one (probably Bruenor Battlehammer) will appear in the Monsters Manual.

Probably some abilities that augment certain defenses. or to leave design space open for that type of thing.

Wasn't "Def" originally listed as "Ref" in the Game Day Spine Devil?

My guess is they were originally going to use "Reflex Defense" (Ref) and decided to just go with "Defense" (Def). They just didn't correct all the instances.
