DDM Rant: Dwarves...Aaaarrrgghhh!

DDM is based on an alignment system in the underlying game. It requires a lot of figs for each alignment be represented.

Of course - there are no shortages of evil figs - but good ones are hard to find.

The Dwarves fill that "how 'bout this one for a Lawful Good?" need for the underlying miniature's game design.

Not a great reason, I know, but an accurate one.

Humans and elves could fill that niche as well. I say "Death to Dwarves!" :uhoh:

You can never have too many dwarves IMO. :)

You should see my army of Reaper minis.

Trust me. You can have enough dwarves. Heck, they are one of the least played character races IMO.

I guess I've noticed the dwarves, but what really bugs me are the drow. Every set has boatloads of drow figs. Most of them are commons, too, so I can't even sell them to someone who cares. I really, really hate drow, too. I suppose I could always paint them to be regular elves, but that's kinda the point of buying pre-painted minis. Besides, I'd rather have some variety. Stepping up the production of elementals (or other summoned critters) would be really nice, too.

I had to do this simply because I was curious and this topic has been discussed elsewhere before. Here are the total number of each race in every set so far. I left out stuff like 'Dwarf Skeleton' or that Draegloth thing from Underdark as they aren't real represenative of the races (left in the Drow Mounted Patrol though). This is out of 512 miniatures produced to date

Humans = 79 (no real surprise here) or 15.4%
Elves & Half Elves = 40 (5 of these are 1/2 elves) or 7.8%
Dwarves = 22 or 4.3%
Gnomes & Halflings (and if you say you can't use one as the other I will laugh at you) = 16 or 3.1%
1/2 Orc and Drow tied at 13 figures apeice or 2.5% each of the total number of figures.

Seems like a pretty good proportion if you ask me. Maybe need a few more 1/2 elves but they have never been a popular race choice in my experience. The less said about gnomes the better *blech*
