Considering that the Beholder was in Death Knell, not Aberrations, you either had amazing luck or messed up set names. BTW, your practice of "cherry picking" is held in contempt by many collectors.

Oly beacuse they are so terrible at it. Besides with the introducation of large uncommons cherrypicking is worthless.

My problem with DDM is not with the number of dwarf minis. But Most of the dwarf DDM minis have an axe or hammer. How about some other weapons?

True which I why I was happy to see the Dwarf Wizard (staff), Mercenary (longsword) Artificer (mace), Samurai (greatsword) and Raider (crossbow). It was starting to look like Warhammer where every dwarf has an axe or hammer.

Humans and elves could fill that niche as well.

Since I pick up the figures for RPG reasons, some races are of zero interest to me, like Drow: they aren't in my campaign world, so I've steered cleer of Underdark for the moment. After getting two Goliath Barbarians as my rares in my first two packs :-( I can appreciate why somepeople might whinge about X race turning up "all the time"

Still, I wish that they would bring more Halfling/Gnome figures and help patch up the holes so all the PHB race/class combos are covered. I've way more use for a Halfling Druid or Elven Monk than an Undying Soldier or Kruthik Hatchling, and suspect most RPG player are in the same situation.

Re: the absence of Half-Elves: I assume most people just use human/elf figures as appropriate. They aren't mechanically hugely interesting, so it's no wonder they don't churn them out by the bucketload: all other PHB races have something more crunchy to hook onto, especially for the Miniatures players.

I was gonna look to see which set it was in, but then just said Aberrations, it was easier than looking.

Cherry Picking is held in contempt? That's just kind of silly. There's no way to tell for sure, it's barely hedging your bets in a random draw. Also, I'm not a collector, so I don't care what their clique rules are.

I just thought it amusing, sitting in a store, trying to test for a beholder. For all I knew, they were all Beholder's. Luck was with me that day.

For the record, I don't play the mini's game, nor collect the mini's. I usually buy a pack, keep 3-4 neat ones, then give the rest to my nephew, who loves them for being little plastic figures.

A gnome with a hooked hammer would be very neat.

Of course I do still buy Reapers now and again. I'd love to get back to painting and am in the process of 'culling' my minaiture collection to only have stuff in it that i want and will use.

Don't get me wrong, I love Reaper miniatures. However, the detail in a Reaper miniature vs. the prepainted D&D miniatures, I'll take the D&D miniature almost all the time (since I paint about 1 figure/year).

Now that Mage Knight has been discontinued, I'm probably going to compromise and pop some of the more recent MK figures off their base, getting better paint jobs (usually) and more detailed sculpts (again, usually) than D&D miniatures, but still prepainted.

Well, it wouldn't do to put a lot of elves into Lawful Good, however, there would be some good possibilities for some neutral good crossover minis:

Champion of Sehanine Moonbow: CG or LG
Prince Melf Brightflame: CG or LG
etc, etc.

Also, an elf paladin mini (possibly taking advantage of the elf racial substitution levels for paladin) as a commander that could bring CG elves to the LG faction would open up a lot of interesting options. (I'd want to build a waband around that option and call it "The Last Alliance.")

Feh. The beholder is a $40 mini on eBay--I have no problem with his cherry-picking. It's not like he opened packages to look inside.
