DDM Rant: Dwarves...Aaaarrrgghhh!

How are they doing now on their number of figures, and the spread of various weapon types (both melee and ranged), for humanoid and monstrous humanoid creatures?

Are there any seemingly-traditional creatures that are not represented at all yet?

Yes. No Hydra - but as it's huge, that's not surprising.

They're covering the bases, including easier-to-acquire versions of iconic creatures (e.g. trolls, ogres, hill giants). The vast variety of PC-types does mean that it takes a while there, however.

Cheers!

Looking at the MM 3.5, all of the following iconic creatures are still missing:

Aboleth
Astral Deva
Planetar
Solar
Blink Dog
Cloaker
Cornugon
Gelugon
Pit Fiend
Marilith
Dire Tiger
Large Water Elemental
Gorgon
Hag (any)
Hippogriff
Hydra
Mephit (any)
Nightmare
Gelatinous Cube
Remorhaz
Rust Monster
Shadow
Sphinx (any)
Stirge

There are more creatures missing from the MM, but I imagine these are probably the most often requested ones.

They've been pretty good about releasing iconic creatures in the last few sets. For instance, in Underdark we got:

Satyr
Iron Golem
Xorn
Balor
Dire Bat
Roper
Winter Wolf

And before that, in Angelfire:

Djinni
Efreeti
Stone Giant
Hamatula
Kyton
Large Air Elemental (although the sculpt sucks)
Pegasus
Ogre Mage
Hezrou

Feh. The beholder is a $40 mini on eBay--I have no problem with his cherry-picking. It's not like he opened packages to look inside.
Of course, I'd never sell my Beholder. He's neat! (same with my Death Slaad, though they don't go for much at all apparently.)

Today I got a couple random packs of Underdark. One pack had no big mini (biggest being a Winter Wolf), the other had an Iron Golem and the skeletal equiceph. (what an ugly mini that last one is.) I guess they're not evenly distributed now.

The Underdark set has a higher ratio of neat mini's than previously I think. But really, why the heck did they make a Spider of Lolth mini? there are 7 million cheap spider's on the market, and it doesn't even look that great!

Main problem for me with mini's is shipping prices. most Ebay places are $3 + .50-1$ a mini, and that's a bit silly for me. When I bought a bunch of lizardfolk for the fight at Blackwall Keep, the actual shipping was 1/3rd of the price of the charged shipping.

The spider of lolth is much easier for me to obtain than any other spider.

Go to almost any Toys R Us, and they'll have a big bag of assorted insects. If you need a giant lizard, or spider or whatever, it's there. :)

Boil water. Dip base of mini up to it's knees in, wait 5 seconds. Remove from water and gently hold it in the shape you want.

None of which works if the mini was bent during production. Like, for example, the gnoll skeletons. Or the skeletal equicephs (although not to as bad an extent).

What is this Toys R Us you speak of?

Cheers!
