Dead Gelatinous Cubes

Slowly lose their shape, melting into a gooey puddle on the floor. Eventually they dry into a whitish powder, and the folks from Knox come and package the remains in convenient envelopes.

One company feeds the gelatinous cube only with certain fruit, so that the remains pick up the taste of what the cube is fed. Though the powder may be reconstituted the cube is well and truly dead, and can be cast in many shapes other than the cube, slowly losing its shape again in warm weather.

This was what I was wondering about. Kill a GC in a 10' wide corridor, and well, how to get past it?

I was in a game one time where a cube "divided" the party on either side of itself. We ended up using torches to burn it up so we could get back together.

Burning a 10'x10' mass of gelatinous flesh in an enclosed area? First off the fuel needed to produce enough heat to evaporate the water content alone would suffocate itself in an enclosed area, and the fumes given off by the cooking flesh would be highly acidic and dangerous. And you were able to do this with torches? Which one of you was leading the mule TRAIN that was loaded with the several hundred torches needed for this operation...

A Gelatinous Cube with Magic Mouth on it...

Me likey! I'm using that someday....YANK!

Its just the sort of thing that could drive someone nuts!

DM: "The levitating skeleton glides towards you silently down the darkened hall, speaking words to you in a gravelly whisper 'Leave my abode, defilers'!"

Cleric: "I can't understand it!...I can't detect it, I can't turn it...WTF!!!"

Heh- lodge a couple of coins or stones with Continual Light into the skull, and the party will soil themselves!

Turn yellowish, start to crust over and the dehydration sets in it becomes a salt lick deposit as it breaks down. Most dungeon animals do use as such.

Reading this thread I thought that gelatinous cubes have indeed nothing to do in my own campaign setting. Why stabbinbg it with a spear can kill it, what it becomes upon dying, and why a stuff without organs would die from stabs, etc. However, it got me the idea to create a "shadow ooze". It would work like ooze / GC, but it's a malevolent emanation from the plane of shadow. It requires fire or light to destroy it, being impervious to physical attacks. "Slaying it" results in this shadow ooze to be simply dissolved, though a disgusting soot may remain behind...

Having its liquid elements petrify sounds like a nice idea. What's this milky, glassy thing blocking the hallway? Oh, it's a dead gelatinous cube... I think I still see an adventurer inside. Ooohh, that's sick! *hurp*

Edit: Perhaps merchants would cut off small cubes of the corpse, polish them, and sell them. They'd be like those clear glass/plastic paperweights with something mounted inside. You never know what you'll find when you run across a cube's corpse. Oh look, mine's got a ring inside! With...a...finger...still in it? *hurp* ;)
