Deadlands d20 In-Character

Karl Green

First Post
Just thinking about maybe starting an "In Character" game based on Deadlands d20. I have been trying for a while to get players here in Seattle by no luck (everyone wants to play fantasy D&D, WoD or GURPS). I am just throwing' ideas out right now to see about interest. [OT- not sure if this is still the right place to ask about this or not]

What I am thinking... using the basic rules but adding ONE (big) modification - VP/WP in the game. OF course crits would have to be different, spell casting character might be able to burn Vitality for spell, but only Blood Magic would be able to use Wound Points etc. I might add a few extra Feats and some feat mods (I think skill focus should give +3 to one skill or +2 to two related skills, Bravery from Deadlands should give +4 Save bonus and/or lower the effects of a Horror, etc.)

Right now just looking to see if this is possible, and if there is interest. Maybe five or six players, and I would post at least once a day (although weekends are not as good for me as I try and escape the computer world for a day or so). If there is interest I will write something up on character creation, etc (and rule changes for VP/WP, which I might not use simply for simplicity sake). Of course I forgot my Deadlands d20 book and notes at home so I have to wait for tomorrow anyway :)

Thoughts?

As some advice on how to get some DNDers to play DL. First , don't pitch the game as Deadlands. Start off the game as more of a steam punk setting, perhaps victorian or Musketeers. As the monsters get wierder and tougher, they'll ask for a mid game change just to get access to those guns and real Mad Science. :)

At least that's how I did it.

yea I might

but this was mostly to see if anyone would want to try an In Character game here? Doesn't sound like much interest but that is cool. One of these days I will run this :)

Right now I am running an Aberrant game, but the rest of my friends are either into Vampire, GURPS or D&D fantasy and that is about it.

I ran a steampunk/Deadlands game at the game store for a few months. Then the gamer politics sort of tore the game apart. I had been running d20 for almost a year, so I am now running Trinity, my Aeon brother.

Yes, I would definitely be into this game, and more than able to answer posts in a timely manner (a big necessity if you'reto have a fun game!).

The inclusion of vitality points will make a far more lethal game which is fine with me. Deadlands d20 is not lethal enough in my opinion. I do have one thought, however. What about including the 'poker chip' game mechanic from the original game?

My email address is in my profile. I'm rarin' t' go, pardner.

OK well I will write up a quick intro and post it (and a casting call) over on in-Character today. I am still tinkering around with VP/WP so I should include thoose notes in the intro...

kewl

Take a look at the "Deadlands-In Character" in the In Character folder. Right now people have been planning on a Gunslinger, a Shaman, a Rowdy, a Scout and a Huckster. I would not super mind if someone played something else (like a Blessed or a Brave or a Mad Scientist or Maverick)

[D'oh of course I remember you already claimed a character their GreyOne, anyway, if anyone else is interested those are still open :)]
