That's what an iterative playtest development cycle is for. Until they somehow figure out how to do free, live updates for hardcover-dead tree books that is as close to that model as you're going to get.

I think that this "hardcover-dead tree books" thing is the problem here :-D

One small point: WotC has not published Pokemon since 2003 (Nintendo America now does it themselves). Magic, of course still makes them buckets of money.

That said, I do agree with the overall point. A rushed product will be bad for long-term success.

Yes, by all means. Release a game that requires constant internet connection, even if you just want to play single player.

I agree, in the sense of: release the playtest rules early, let us play around with them and give feedback, and iterate them a lot of times before publishing a bunch of hardcover books.

If Hasbro says, "D&D 5e must be released on this date, or else!" do you really believe that Monte and Mearls will go, "Nah-uh! We're going to release it when it's READY!"?

Do you think that's any different from what might happen inside Blizzard between developers/designers and managers (maybe from financial or marketing departments)?
