Death in 4e - An Obituary Thread

Well I wouldn't have anything and everything dish out CDGs, naturally. But I definitely think orcs and similar foes would be rather likely to deliver them. Just me though, I'm not trying to tell people how the game is played. :)

And yeah, it is something that my group enjoys. I know that not everyone plays that way though, and that's fine. Certainly doesn't get my hackles up because people play differently. :D

My first "Kill" as a DM was an opening fight against kobolds in Earthblight Rift, a dark chasm of corruption. The PCs had handily mopped up most of the kobolds defending a zip line, chasing away a few Slingers, and struggling to finish off the last Piker. Their luck was less than stellar, and everyone kept missing.

The 2nd level Dragonborn Rogue (with only a few HP remaining) had ventured near the edge of the 30 foot cliff, then the Piker recharges his Push ability, crits the Rogue, and Pushes him off the 30 ft. cliff to his death. Rest in peace, Abbadon...your replacement has proved far more able.

In general, I'm not a big fan of CDGs, since they mainly seem to be a spite thing. The monster "wastes" his action to kill a downed opponent instead of focusing on a real threat in front of him.

I think a lot of the arguments against your usage of the CDG chaotix42 stem from your "apparent" use of it to teach your players better tactics.

No deaths yet. A lot of people going down, but no one went into the great beyond. Yet...

Everyone watched in horror as the Raider then took his turn, dealing a coup de grace to the fallen PC. That was all she wrote for the poor elf.

Sorry, that's just way too mean. I don't think I ever used a coup de grace against a player. Come to think of it, I did once in a hostage situation and I still felt bad. Give your players a break man. Its not you vs. them. I appreciate your view on tactics and all that, but where's the fun in playing if you are out for blood all the time?

Drakes in KotS! Oh the party doesn't like them, nor does it like planks and falling damage ;-) Two deaths happened at the teeth of drakes. The Ranger and the Warlord... both were acting like tanks. Could the fact that the Cleric was "in the hall guarding" (unable to attend game day) contribute to that fact? Most definitely.

Like others at lest one person has been "down" every milestone. The constant question is ... "Can we take a 6hour rest now?" No! I respond, "You have only been fighting for 5 mins." LOL

PARTY 2nd Lvl:
Human Wizard
Human Paladin
Halfling Thief
Elven Ranger RIP
Dragonborn Warlord RIP
Dwarven Cleric MIA
