Never got much into the first one. Heck, still owe a review on the d20 adventure.
However, one of my friends was impressed with the size and scope of the 2nd edition and I've seen it at the store. It is huge.
Haven't seen a lot of talk about it around here and I know many peoplpe play more than just d20 games. Although it is OGL...
Anyway, here are some things my buddy says about it.
"It's like Palladium Fantasy should've been done." He loves Palladium but isn't too fond of all the rules. He further explains to me that stats can be changed through some skills and feats.
He also explains that you can buy feats with experience points.
He wants to run a few sessions just to test out the game engine.
I'll be getting a copy soon and will have more to report once we actually get playing.
I do like some of the art though. Has it's own feel even when it's not as good as some other books. Very atmospheric enhancing.
Another of my friends, the one who wanted to dump D20 for HARP and then started looking at Warhammer 2nd ed, loved the first ed too. He has some of the music like March of the Juggernaughts. He loved those crazy things and their infestation of one land and demons on another.
So are other people playing it? Using it for background in other settings?
