D&D 5E Dec 17th Packet - Monsters and Math, Hurrah!

Probably intentional.

That's how they can find the butter zone. Offer up both ends of the spectrum (first too low, then too high) to see what people's reactions are. That way you can then begin finding the middle ground that is just right.

Goldilocks And The Three Bears is playtesting in a nutshell.

Yeah, sometimes you just gotta poke around in the dark before you find this "butter zone"

My first reaction was that a whole lot of high level monsters have magic resistance. I could only find 1 above 14th level that didn't have it.

The Bestiary had some love ! Many new monsters show up. Monster math fixed, some monsters save or die mechanic (medusa, cocatrice, basilisk) was turned to save or save or die instead.

The Beholder is really scary

I've got mixed reactions.

Asmodeus (and certain other top-toughness monsters) really ought to have an AC well into the 20s IMHO... far better than most pcs can hit, and hard even for high-level and fairly optimized pcs. I mean, this is Asmodeus we're talking about!

The basic adjustments to monster math look good, but I'll have to try 'em out to be sure.
