[Deeds Not Words] Okay what do you think?

First Post
I was one of the people that purchased the game on Friday morning. Now besides the initial release problems, what do you guys think? I know from the emails that they sent out I'm not the only one to purchase the rulebook.
Here are my thoughts in no specific order:
1) I know that when ever I do something big everything that can go wrong does. So I don't really feel to bad about the initial delays. Moreover, I'm very happy to be receiving the D20 modern update for free whenever it comes out.
2) $10 for 318 pages? Can't go wrong as far as I'm concerned. It packs a tremendous amount of material into that space as well. It took me 4 hours just to go through the first time and even then I was skipping many sections.
3) I think he covered all of the major bases quite well, the sections on Chemicals and Gadgets was even more than I was expecting to see. I was also very happy with the equipment section. Of course I can't wait to get my hands on more equipment (hopefully one of his first expansions will be a equipment guide).
4) The biggest problem I had was during the creation of my first test character their was so much cool stuff in the book his driving concept changed at least 3 times.
5) I ran some test combats with first level characters last night. The first was my character that has 10 powers (moderate level), who specializes in adaptation. The second was a character that a friend created that is basically Night Crawler with a big ass touch attack (level 4). The final character involved in the testing was the NPC posted on the site Sleipnir. First thing I noticed is how deadly combat could be! Of course these are first level guys we are talking about here. First level is always a fragile place to be. I really like how it flowed even though one guy used guns, another a touch attack, and the third guy used a magical trident. Sleipner did the best but he is from a higher power bracket than the other 2 (they were moderate).

Since no one else has anything to say :)

I'll shamelessly reply to my own post with a couple of thoughts that are zinging around in my head.

1) I'm really glad that I purchased this game, I've been looking for a system to run a campaign that I've had bouncing around in my head for some time now. And though I will take a look at SAS from GOO it will have to be really good to make decide to pick it up.

2) The game fast to pick up and easy to run. It seems like it would do most settings fairly well ie. gritty, modern , golden age.

3) In my search for the proper game system I have looked at godlike, Vigilance, Mayhem, paragon, and even hero (which as a side note looks like it does everything I want, but seems to run/play to slowly for me.). With each one of those I've said to myself well SAS is only a little while away! Now I'm thinking SAS had better be damn good.

As another side note I have to say I don't have much curiosity about M&M at all. I know almost nothing about the product and they have done absolutely nothing to pique my curiosity at all. I would have thought that they would do some sort of preview so people could decide if they should wait for it. As it is I think it will have to be AMAZING to get anyone to buy it. By the time it comes out their will just be too many other choices on the market.

5) I think that the small publishers have made it really hard for people like GOO to do well. This is mainly because they beat them to market. Their products like DNW are really, really, good. So what if they aren't great? At $5 or $10 bucks they are unbeatable! SAS is $39.95. I think it will have a really tough time being 4 times as good as DNW.

Huh?

Which Super-Hero product is he involved in? I checked M&M, and SAS but didn't see the name. I searched google for the name but found nothing other than old stuff.

"Summon Gareth-Michael Skarka" is a spell that can be used by a Mystic in DNW.

Also...any game that includes a "Man Portable 7.62mm Minigun" is a winner. Without giving away too many details, roll 1d10 (that's how many hits the target takes on a successful attack) then roll 1d8 for each hit.

This game sets a high mark for the competition...let's see what the bring to the plate.

Game on!

:) Haven't gone through the spells in depth yet

As the title says I haven't spent much time with magic yet, just glanced through it briefly to see if any glaring problems stuck out (as a side note I would love to summon the "Duke").
By your weapon choice I take it you are one of those killer GM's?

I can't wait to get my copy. I've been waiting for this one for a little while now, and I've got a group of guys ready to give this a go.

Notice I did not say 20mm M61 Vulcan or 25mm/30mm Chain Guns...

But if the glove fits...

I suggest a brief visit to the message boards at www.greenronin.com. In fact, here's a helpful link: http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=35&forum=4&82

I have it on good authority that such a creature will appear at the Gen Con game fair. I'm told that the 4-pager is stunning, and that the game will be worth the wait.

By the time it comes out there will be one (1) other d20 superhero game in wide, printed circulation (you'll forgive me, I trust, if I discount both the Godlike conversion notes and the Foundation). There will be a few more pdfs and the like, but Mutants & Masterminds is not a PDF game, and isn't really intending to compete on that level.

So I've been told.

Erik,

I am looking forward to both M&M and SAS D20, but I will tell you that DNW will give them both a run for their money. It is that good!

Thanks for the links to the GR website.

Later!
