I was one of the people that purchased the game on Friday morning. Now besides the initial release problems, what do you guys think? I know from the emails that they sent out I'm not the only one to purchase the rulebook.
Here are my thoughts in no specific order:
1) I know that when ever I do something big everything that can go wrong does. So I don't really feel to bad about the initial delays. Moreover, I'm very happy to be receiving the D20 modern update for free whenever it comes out.
2) $10 for 318 pages? Can't go wrong as far as I'm concerned. It packs a tremendous amount of material into that space as well. It took me 4 hours just to go through the first time and even then I was skipping many sections.
3) I think he covered all of the major bases quite well, the sections on Chemicals and Gadgets was even more than I was expecting to see. I was also very happy with the equipment section. Of course I can't wait to get my hands on more equipment (hopefully one of his first expansions will be a equipment guide).
4) The biggest problem I had was during the creation of my first test character their was so much cool stuff in the book his driving concept changed at least 3 times.
5) I ran some test combats with first level characters last night. The first was my character that has 10 powers (moderate level), who specializes in adaptation. The second was a character that a friend created that is basically Night Crawler with a big ass touch attack (level 4). The final character involved in the testing was the NPC posted on the site Sleipnir. First thing I noticed is how deadly combat could be! Of course these are first level guys we are talking about here. First level is always a fragile place to be. I really like how it flowed even though one guy used guns, another a touch attack, and the third guy used a magical trident. Sleipner did the best but he is from a higher power bracket than the other 2 (they were moderate).
