Deities and the SRD

Roger

First Post
So it seems obvious that the deities are not in the SRD.

Except... except I was browsing through the SRD the other day and I noticed on page 3 that the two deity charts on page 62 of the PHB are part of the SRD, at least insofar as their "mechanical expressions."

I'm not sure I understand what the intention here is.

Anyone have any guesses?

Cheers,
Roger

The proper names for each deity is not allowed but there's nothing to stop you from having another name for a god of death, war, etc.

Right, but I'd be surprised if I couldn't do that without the tables on page 62. I'm trying to figure out why those tables are referenced at all in the SRD.

D&D 4E PH, PH2, and Tables...

Good, Lawful Good, and Unaligned Deities (alignment and areas of influence; PH page 62)
Evil and Chaotic Evil Deities (alignment and areas of influence; PH page 62)

I wouldn't have guessed that the areas of influence are mechanical expressions, but I suppose the intent here is to ensure they're available for use. I can't imagine why else they'd be called out. (Obviously alignment names are mechanical expressions.)

I suppose in theory there could be a Channel Divinity feat (or something like it) accessible to worshippers of a god of War, if someone was hankering for Domains. Hmm.

You may want to take a look at Lore of the Gods from DragonWing Games/Bastion Press. It is 100% OGC and may cover what you are looking for. :)

Now THAT's something I wish had caught on better, as far as other publishers are concerned. But I guess we all like to create our own stuff and don't like to share with the other kids as well as we should. ;)

Lore of the Gods appears to be a d20/3.5/OGL product, not a 4E-compatible product. There is a vast difference.

You'll have to make it clearer that you're taking about the 4e SRD/GSL, then (actually, I'd forgotten that there was such a thing). The default assumption, if you're interested in what's "open", and referring to the SRD, is that you mean the OGL SRD.

Not really your fault, just the way things are. The GSL SRD is barely open at all by comparison.
