I'm afraid I have to agree with the previous posts. WotC has sent out C&Ds recently for almost exactly this sort of website. Sorry to disappoint, but if it were legal, everybody would be doing it. :)

It's... really cool and useful.

But I expect you might encounter a cease and desist fairly soon.

I'm pretty sure i will, I've done this for myself, when i get the C&D , i will make it private for personal use only. And i have another project and i wiil use the structure i've made in this project. Lets see how long it can keep going. Hope you like it.

So it's not an innocent case of misunderstanding what's OK, but a case of deliberately violating somebody else's IP rights knowing you'll get a C&D?

I'm just making it public, i'm not making money, and anything like this. I had a pretty hard time looking for the all the spells in the PH everytime i needed them and made me a reference guide. If someone find it usefull, nice. And lets face it, with just that content, you can't do anything but buy the book. But thanks for the clarification.

Hmm... I just read that whether one makes money off of it or not, has no bearing on whether it's infringement. I also read that in the United States, willful copyright infringement can carry a maximum penalty of $150,000 per instance.

That doesn't sound very convenience adding to me.

Not saying that will happen here...likely just a cease & desist...but speaking for myself, I wouldn't be rolling the dice like this just for convenience sake.

Well... I think i will have to keep the spell descriptions for myself. I really though it was no big deal to have something that promotes the product and help people. BTW, i see a bunch of people publishing spreadsheets with much more content than that. I think it hurts Wizards much more than my blog. Thanks a lot for the help guys. I'm from Brazil, and here Rules for games can't be copyrighted as far as i know.

It isn't about making money, it is about putting a copyrighted work online. If you want a handy reference, use my spell card generator. You fill in the spell info and print out what you need. The spell cards work well as a printed sheet for an NPC or in a trading card binder sleeve.

In your case, you can dump your database to the Excel file or another similarly structured data source that Word can manage. You will need to massage the data a little for the longer spells.
