Let me get this straight...

As I understand it, then, Edition Pi is your homebrewed D20 rules system, which you will sell as a replacement for the core books, and you are asking for people to donate artwork and fluff text for no payment save that you will give them credit and a free copy of the PDF? There's no chance to give input on the rules, from what I understand, unless it is to refine your system, and all the decisions have already been made on content. Also, you want to bill this as a community effort for purposes of making it sell, despite the fact that all major decisions have already been made before you brought this to the attention of that community. Is that correct, or did I misunderstand your words?

I don't mean to come across poorly, and I realize I probably do. For that, I apologize most sincerely. However, the above is how I am currently reading your words. This may not be your intention, so if you wouldn't mind clarifying anything that I have misunderstood, I would appreciate it. Emails and bulletin board posts often do not allow us to communicate as we would want or intend to, and I'd hate to make any judgments or decisions based on a poor interpretation of what has been posted to date.

Also, how does your system handle non-Fantasy based gaming? Could one run a Sci-Fi game in this system? Or a 1920s Horror game? Or a Ice Age survival game? Just looking to see how diverse your efforts are going to be.

With Regards,
Flynn

Well Flynn, there DOES seem to be some misunderstanding. Edition Pi is not meant to be a compilation of house rules, it is a compilation of the best of 3.0 and 3.5 with some added/altered material meant to fix persistent problems and fill persistent holes (like the lack of an integrated psionics system).

I was under the impression that the psionics system in 3.5 was integrated into the rules, at least to the extent possible without purchasing the XPH. However, I think I see what you are getting at. Your explanation does clarify things a bit.

So Flynn, if you are looking for a replacement for the core books, a way of fixing somethign you don't like in either 3.0 or 3.5, a cheaper alternative to them, or a way to help spread your name - then Edition Pi was meant for you. If you are looking for a way of playing sci-fi d20 or some other non-fantasy genre, but do not want to keep on using WotC products or want to try out somebody else's rules for a change, then Universal Decay was meant for you. Edition Pi has a very specific and relatively narrow purpose (a cleaned-up and fixed alterantive to the WotC 3.0/3.5 core rules, that still relies hevailly on those elements that actually WORK), and it does it and me an injustice to assume otherwise.

As I said earlier, my apologies for the misunderstanding, but I only had the words and presentation on the screen to guide me, and I was left with a certain impression that apparently was not true. No offense was meant, and I hope none was taken.

I think I've found in Grim Tales what you are trying to do with Universal Decay, but I look forward to the reception your Edition Pi receives in reviews and such. It hopefully will be of sufficient interest to give you what you seek from this project.

Best of luck on your project,
Flynn

I determine what is and is not preferred the old fashioned way: I ask people. Around here and online, the vast majority of people don't like the 3.5 weapon size rules.

Your preferences and those of random people you ask aren't a meaningful statistical statement. The "vast majority" of people play with the rules in the currently published books. Since magical items resize in DnD anyway it hardly matters for the average player. This kind of nit-picking isn't going to push the game in any meaningful direction.

Unless you are truly gifted at convincing people on your specific rules interpretations are correct you're going to have a very tough slog of it.
Good luck with it though, its a noble effort.
