The alternate names for the demihuman vampires (e.g. Elven Vampires were called Banshees IIRC).

I think way back in 1E (maybe in other references, too), Banshees were described as an evil elven spirit (I used the concept for a plot hook once). They're a different type of undead, not vampires.

No, I know about all of that.... but I distincltly remember this being something that was 2E and Ravenloft.... It may even have been in the Van Richten's guide to Vampires.

I love these monsters. Consider them yoinked when I need some kind of odd undead. If you could can you post a few sample vampires...around the CR of the one in the MM please. Also since we are dealing with the core races...what about the 1/2 orc or orc vampire? I'd imagine that if there isn't one from 2E that the "savage vampire" template would work fine from Dragon Magazine.
