Demon Hunters of Karameikos

Sydney nods his head vigourously.

"I can tell you about them in more detail of you want. Let's see if I can remember anything," he says and tells them what he knows about Jovocs, and any abilities they may have.

For Festy Dog (OOC let me know if this method is annoying)
Apart from the standard demon traits and weaknesses, the Jovoc are said to be fast healers and emit an aura that deals equal damage to nearby nontanar'i whenever they are damaged, regardless of the source.Their bodies also emit a terrible stench and they favor the ambush.Because of their traits they are often in the front lines of abyssal forces. (For what its worth, in this particular instance, Sydney's knowledge on this subject is equal to player knowledge from the Monster Manual 2).

For everyone

As the Hunters talk amongst themselves, Piotr's head appears in the doorway, where he has been hovering like a shadow.

"For..forgive my boldness my lords," the boy stutters, his face red and eyes downcast,'"I could not but help ovehear. If you command, I can have your boat made ready and stocked with food...if, if you wish to leave at noontide after meeting with my master. Or it could be made for depature tomorrow."

Piotr swallows hard, obviously intimidated. "There are several hours till mid day. If you do desire to provision yourselves. our..our temple maintains a shop that sells magic potions and scrolls. If you desire weapons or armor, Crim the dwarf owns a forge near the docks. He is quite skilled and imports items from the trading ships."

Piotr bows and disappears behind the frame of the door, "My..my apologies for the interupption, my lords."

(OOC Didnt mean to upset the inter party talk, keep discussing or whatever, just throwing stuff out.)

"We will go tomorrow. I need to provision myself for this fight. Best to be prepared in case they are demons. Thank you Piotr."

OOC: Do you want us to RP the purchases, or can we just add stuff to our RG entry?

Janos

Janos flashes a friendly, understanding smile. "No need to apologize, Piotr. Your sharp ears will serve you well as long as you don't stray from the path of righteousness."

"I won't be needing anything," he adds.

OOC: Up to you really. Feel free to fit in as you can.Just listing it is ok.

"It appears Captain Dargo has chosen well. You all seem like worthwhile allies in this fight. I suggest we all arm ourselves with weapons befitting our enemies. At least something of cold iron. Some healing might also prove of value. We must also be aware that the diagnosis could be mistaken. It could be some entirely different foe we will face. We must be on our guard in all respects. Tell me, does anyone know much of these ancient 'beast-men'? If they are truely returning, is there any way we can be better prepared?"

OOC: I'll go ahead & buy some more equipment for Solomon in the RG & debit his gold reserves accordingly.

At this point Sydney cuts in again, spouting a bundle of information on the 'Jovoc'.

"They're like any other demon in their strengths and weaknesses, but what makes them unique is how fast they heal, and the strange aura they possess. Any harm done to them is also done to any non-demon standing within a certain distance, about thirty feet I believe. A particularly scary tactic they have is to get their enemies within range of their aura and to attack each other. Because their injuries heal so quickly they don't seem to mind doing themselves harm," he says, and shakes his head sadly, "This does not bode well, Jovocs are usually frontline troops in times of conflict, let's hope they aren't a sign of things to come. Hmm, beastmen you say though, I have some knowledge of history. I'll try to remember if I've read anything about them."

[ooc: method's not annoying at all, i'm just worried that all these knowledge checks i make may get annoying for you :p]

"Truely a tactic used only by the foulest of creatures," Janos replies. "I do have some healing capability and can attack from safe distance with my spells."

"I think I may need to go buy some more silvered arrows. We should all equip well for a ranged battle and anything that boosts our speed and cuts down on our enemies'. What are those wonderous alchemcical devices called for that, the sticky ones?"

DMs Note: Feel free to simply list the items your purchase here and add it to your Rogues Gallery sheet. All items from the PHB and DMG are available, at standard peices.

Regarding the Beast-men, most anyone who dwells in Karameikos for any extended period of time learns at least the basics of the legends since it is so important to the common people. The national epic "The Song of Halav" details that time in history and the worship of the songs heroes: King Halav, Queen Petra, and Zirchev the Hunter is so intertwined with Traladarn life. For even visitors much of this information is close to common knowledge.

According to history, 2000 years ago the ancestors of the Traladarans, the Traldar dwelt in small city states, and possessed simple stone age technology. Hordes of beastmen invaded from the north and west, killling and enslaving the Traldar.

King Halav gave the Traldar the knowledge of superior metal weapons and forging, Queen Petra inspired the few free cities to remain free, and Zirchev the Hunter taught the people advanced tactics to fight the invaders. After years of conflict, in the final battle with the Beastmen, Halav and the king of the Beastmen slew each other in a duel.

The Beastmen themselves remain something of a mystery. As despised invaders most of the images and stautes of them were destroyed. Fragments of pottery show beastlike humanoids with heads like wolves or dogs. Scholars still argue whether these creatures were a form of gnoll, werewolf, or something else.
