Demon lords - who are these guys?

Sorry. Actually I started to give you props too the first draft of my post (before I actually posted it), but then I saw that you had posted already. You are the other one who I figured would know the answer, but I also figured that if you knew the answer off of the top of your head you'd have said so already. :)

*blush and grin*

The Tanar'ri are a weak point of mine to tell the truth. I'm much more apt to use Yugoloths and Baatezu for any in depth plot material in any game I run, as opposed to Tanar'ri. To a lesser extent I'll use Night Hags or Rakshasa as well (but when they do get involved at all, its majorly).

Of course if I admit knowing less about the Tanar'ri than the other fiends, I think that Xanxost more than makes up. Xanxost seems to know his Tanar'ri pretty damn well. :)

Really? Well, that's certainly a huge change from Vuron as he appearances in the Gord novels. In those novels he was an androgynous, white demon lord who seemed be more honorable than all others, far more intelligent than most, and utterly dedicated to Graz'zt...

Big change. Although a "male" marilith is an interesting take.

I work under the premise that Verin is not Vuron, just a coincidence in name. What Wotc's origin is, I can't say.

I was just taking a peek at the back of Defenders of the Faith and noticed the names of a dew demon princes I'd never heard of before. So who are:
Alvarez
Alzrius
Eldanoth
Lissa'aera
Lupercio
Lynkhab
Verin
Vucarik

Any knowledge?

Ok here we go:

From "Faces of Evil: The Fiends"
Alvarez: "the Purging Duke", is the inquisitor of the tanar'ri. He was once a mortal who was so perfect in his cruelty and brutality and so clever in his hate that he was rewarded by the nalfeshnee who judged him and he reached abyssal lord status in record time (apparently he only spent time as a chasme before his promotion. He looks like a human male with immaculate clothing and oily, blue-black hair. He rules Torturous Truth, the 57 layer of the abyss.

Eldanoth: Apparently he was a vassal of Orcus. He went out on his own when Kiaransalee slew Orcus. He set up shop in a copper fortress on an abandoned layer of the abyss (somwhere in the 300s). He is angling for the portfolio of crime and hatred. He looks like a male tiefling with snakes for fingertips.

Lupercio: "the Baron of Sloth". He is an ebony-skinned being with no distinct form. He is apparently the embodiment of the strength of darkness. He moves between periods of extreme sloth and manic activity and legends say that he is fantastically strong and there is nothing in the Abyss that he can't lift. He rules the Slugbed (128th layer) but keeps secret lairs on other layers.

Lynkhab: She is the embodiment of desire. She combines deep depression and intensie desire at the same time. She can read desires of others and feed off of their lust. She is apparently stuck in disembodied form but she can force herself into solid form for short periods of time (a female-haired vuluptous elf with eyes of burning ice). She apparently is indestructible (despite her own best attempts to end her existence). She rules the 297th layer (the Sighing Cliffs).

Verin: Also known as Ztefano, is a vassal of Graz'zt. He is a slim, pale humanoid. Apparently he is Graz'zt's spymaster. Verin and Ztefano are apparently different aspects of the same being. Verin is the public face. When he becomes Ztefano he apparently is nearly impossible to detect.

From "Hellbound"

Vucarik: "The Consort of Chains" does not rule a layer, he wanders throughout the Abyss with his batallions. He is cloaked head to toe in dark rusty chains similar to a kyton. Rumor has it that while he has the status of abyssal lord he is not chaotic enough to rule a layer of the Abyss and that is why he wanders. Rumor also has it that he is somehow tied to the kytons of Minauros.

Alzurius: Lord of the Infernal Light. He rules the Conflagratum (the 601st layer) from a ruined city. Apparelty he appears as a column of blinding white flame. He tries to convince mortals to carry his infernal flame to new planes. Apparently these messengers carry actual pieces of Alzurius' own flame which eventually consumes the messenger. He maintains armies of babau and armanites led by a babau named Cleftskull the Blameless.

Lady Lissa'aere: The Noxious, rules Malignebula (27th layer)a swirling funnel of poison mist and malevolence. There is no solid ground on this layer but clouds sometimes solidify enough to stand on. Her army is made up of vrocks and other winged tanar'ri.

Hope that helps.

What is it about this name that no one can ever get it right? It's Alzrius, people, Alzrius! :p

(I would contribute something of substance, but I had to put all my 1E and 2E materials in the attic for space reasons.)
