Demon Prince Baiting

I am currently playing in a Forgotten Releams campaign in which were are just entering Epic Levels.

The problem we are facing at the moment is that a side quest we have been following turns out to end with a Demon Prince. THe back story is that the prince can grant wishes, but when the next wish is granted the previous person to be granted a wish collapses into a coma like state. This has happened to a NPC friend earlier in the campaign. Now it turns out that the prince is tormenting her soul in hell. We want to get at the prince but part from running into hell and taking him on in his home plan, we are stumped for ideas.

Any help would be welcome.

Or bypass him altogether and try to summon her soul back.

Begin killing off his clerics and worshipers. Travel to other planes if you have to. Eventually, he'll be drawn out into a battle or give in to your demands to release your friend. being a demon, he'll be used to the bully or be bullied methodology so he might give in, but he'll not want to do so. If you show the slightest bit of weakness, he'll attenpt to get back at you. This isn't like dealign with a devil. A devil might weigh the options or try and twist the deal, a demon will flat out go back on the deal or lie if he thinks you can get away with it. You have to deal from a point of strength and hit him hard anytime he disobeys. Kill his worshipers, fre his slaves, aid his enemies, raid his plane. Eventually, he has to come to think that it would be him or you in a final battle and that he'd lose. Only then will he give you want you want.

Hi all- I'm the DM in the game in question, so I might be able to shed a bit of light on what's going on..

The demon prince is one of my own devising- if you ever watched Buffy, the whole thing is kinda my take on the vengence demons that were in the series from time to time.

The party accidentally freed a Toril-based agent of the prince some time ago- this agent was a woman who could grant wishes, but whenever she granted a wish, the previous wisher would lose their soul (rendering them effectively comatose) I can't take much credit for that idea as it's one I borrowed from a poster on Monte Cook's Banewarrens board. Due to reasons too complicated to fully explain two close friends of the party wound up making wishes to this woman some time later, and one is now in a coma-like state. They've recently figured out how she came to be like this, and who is behind it, and power-wise are finally in a postion to be able to sort the problem out- also there's the additional constraint of their other ally being on an effective death sentence as he'll more than likely go into a coma too when another wish is granted by the woman.

Hire out a nice celestial. Got to hell with him/her. Otherwise you're other option is negitating with a more powerful Demon Prince to attack said realm, catch the wish giver Demon Prince off guard, kill him in the confusion.

That's my idea.

Or you could turn completely evil, swear your souls to Orcus and just let them die. But that's me.

Shhhh! If they all go and turn evil on me I'm going to have to rewrite the entire rest of the campaign. And we play again on Monday so I don't really have time for that

Among their friends they have a mature adult silver dragon, a couatl, and several high level wizards/clerics. They do also vaguely know a very powerful celestial-type being as it happens, but I think they've forgotten about her!

If *I* were playing the Evil type, and I was the next in line to fall into a coma, that "Wish Woman" would meet a very sudden, very painful end.

Then I suggest they get ALL of the above and go into Hell. Otherwise they are just waiting for the other shoe to fall.
