Denail of Service Attacks vs Myth-Weavers site

Myth Weavers seems to have been under some sort of attack for the last couple days. I'm told it's "Denial of Service". Basically, about 1/2 the time I try to do something, the connection times out or gets reset, and otherwise the connection is slow.

What's the point of this? Seriously, who profits from attacking a site like this? Seems like Dog-in-the-manger behavior. Can anyone explain the logic? Is there any logic?

It reminds me of where there was a database of people willing to help with Star Wars fanfilms that was destroyed by hackers--because they could.

Yeah, I don't really get this either. Sometimes DOS attacks make sense in that it's some form of protest or whatever but attacks on sites like this baffle me. 'For the lulz' is a popular battle cry these days, though.
