Denizens of Avadnu--your thoughts?

This book probably represents the best production values I've ever seen in a monster manual. With it being hardcover, luxurious full-color (for the most part the artwork is fantastic), and housing monsters that are both interesting and well-designed, this book from Inner Circle Games just cannot be beat. Yet, I never see much buzz about it on the boards. What's up with that? Has it flown beneath the radar because the company is still relatively new and slow to churn out product (not always a bad thing--look at Privateer Press)?

You can see more about it (and take them up on their generous introductory offer) here: http://www.icirclegames.com/trueseeing_doa.html

Inner Circle has actually been around as long as 3E! I was surprised to learn this as well - I thought they were hot young turks.

Everything else Bret says is true, though - as one monster-maker to another, I have nothing but respect for these guys and I wish they were better known.

I have it, and think the selection of monsters is very strong. I keep hearing raves about the artwork, and while I do not think the art work is all great by any stretch the production values and sheer bulk of imagery more than makes up for it.

Good stuff.

It has for me, I've never seen it or even heard of it. Having "of Avadnu" as part of the title might not help either. Although most monster books are fairly portable, I'm still more likely to buy a generic one that one specifically designed for a setting that I don't use (and haven't even heard of).

I felt the same way until I really looked at this book. Yes, the monsters "belong" in the campaign world, but Denizens is actually set up so that Avadnu-specific info is relegated to its own little section of each monster entry, with the bulk of each entry being generic monster. You have the standard setup for the entry with two additional sections--"Adventure Ideas" and "On Avadnu". It's really convenient if you don't want to sift through world info you don't need.

We nominated it for an ENnie, in the review section Joe, Teflon Billy and I all gave it a 5 with Mgizine Rack giving it a 4 (it needs one more review to make the top 20 list), but ya I'e even had thread that raved about the book but very few people seemed interested.

I give it 5 out of 5. It is one of my favorite monster tomes.

Well designed, layed out, beautiful as heck, and filled with neat exotic creatures.

I used several of them in my last Oathbound session.

A great purchase and highly recommended.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kind words. It really does mean a lot to us. Being such a small garage company, I do think we are sometimes lost in the shuffle. We have been around quite some time, and put all of our efforts into each product that we produce. We approach our product line from the standpoint that we would rather keep it small and of the highest quality possible.

I'm glad some of you have gotten good use out of Denizens of Avadnu. It was our intention to provide new monsters with unique mechanics that haven't been seen before. As Crothian mentioned, we do need one more review to make Denizens of Avadnu a top 20 product. We recently took the John Cooper challenge. I'm interested to see how we stack up to his thorough review style.

Lastly, several people emailed me asking if we have any of the introductory offers available for Denizens of Avadnu. We do have a few left, so if anyone is interested I wouldn't hesitate.

Well, I gave it high ratings in my review. The other Ennie judges thought it was top notch, some of them having it beat out Tome of Horrors 2.

Good stuff. I love the last monsters, the ones from the void whose name I can never remember. Makes a nice addition to the standard demons and devils bit.
