Denizens of Avadnu--your thoughts?

*chuckles* that's an interesting typo. i don't think eric's grandmother knows about that sort of thing though? :)

I liked it very much. It rivals ToHI and CCII as tops for my "sticky test" (i.e., how many creatures I flag for use in it in my game with yellow stickies)...

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this. Yellow stickies make great bookmarks that everyone should use. ;)

Let me put in my 2 cents on DoA. I loved it. The monsters are weird, but still very usable and interesting. They aren't so tired to the world so to be any trouble to use them in a non-Avadnu campaign setting. (Not that I've ever had trouble using setting-specific monsters in other settings.) The art is a mixed bag, but most of the images give a very good visual representation of what the monster looks like. All in all, it's a great monster book and is my #2 after Monsternomicon.

For any of you that are interested and might not want to fork out $39.95 for Denizens of Avadnu, we are going to be releasing the monsters from Denizens of Avadnu on RPGNow in Challege Rating sets. The line will be called Creature Compendium. The first one, Challege Rating One, will go on sale right after the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Yeah, that's a great way to do a PDF release! Looking forward to it - and glad to see Crothian's review of your Halloween "oldie but goodie" the other day.

Excellent!

I'm glad that someone realizes that a PDF product does not have to be the entire print product.

You said it, Joe. CRs are a great way to offer monsters. I also think theme sets where you get all undead, all monstrous humanoids, etc. is a good packaging idea.

(Geez, these threads sink fast. That'll teach me to not check General for awhile. ;))

I'll chime in here and say we've been nothing but impressed with the quality of the work in Denizens of Avadnu. As of today, I've edited oh... 400+ monsters and theirs is some of the most solid. As for inventiveness, I think had William S. Burrough's ghost-write a few of them... they're really good. :)

All in all, a fine bunch of guys producing a fine product.
