Deploying Golems In The Campaign

After reading Feet of Clay, I really want to make a playable race of golems...

The image of those golems commiting suicide still haunts me...

There was a very long thread some time back about the economics of golems and teleport circles.

Very Funky stuff. Jurgern Hubert was involved.

I like golems, they're the whole reason behind weapons geared to destroy constructs in one blow. Which is one of the major contributing reasons to that guy in my party who has the two handed fighting feats with that mace that destroys undead in one hand and the golem destroying mace in the other.

I imagine that that Archmage had no idea how his day was going to end when he woke up that morning.

Seriously, I do think they are under utilized, admittedly the economics only work out if they are replacing a bunch of workers, but golems really work too well as guards to be ignored.

I really like golems in non-humanoid form. Particularly golem vaults, rooms, vehicles, and engines. Living in an animate, magically immune, and feature equipped room is the ultimate in luxury and security.

Yes and no. Like most people, I love animated statues -- they're a staple of the genre -- but I don't necessarily like the wacky abilities D&D's golems get. Magic immunity? Wound? Haste? Slow? Breath weapon? They just don't fit. And why aren't stone and iron golems immune to piercing weapons when clay golems are?
Does everyone else like the golems statted out in the Monster Manual? Am I the only one who finds their powers odd?
