Depressed DM not getting it right...(depressingly long, very long...)

Hahaha....

Everything's alright i guess...i'm still playing at the moment, the DM says that the campaign is finishing. So someone in our group is going to DM next...

Since this thread, i've headed to new directions of DMing. There ain't a point playing a game unless everyone enjoys, no matter whether how many rules are there, how many encounters, how many treasure and how corny the plots are.....as long it floats everyone's boat, we're happy.

So, i've basically stopped planning all of my campaigns (except for some reason i can't get the Incursion campaign out of my head...well i guess that's what happened when you've been thinking about it for 3 years....sounds like love.....*scary* :o ). Now, i'm trying to write short or non-related adventures instead. Perhaps its the better way since come to think of it, my players don't seem to be the sort that appreciate long story arcs (even if they remember them in the first place).

It's still hard to think about leaving the group or at least finding new ones since we've been gaming so long it's as though we have only each other to game with and like the situation at your side, RPGs = DOTA or cybers. But i'm almost heading for Uni pretty soon. Maybe i can spread my influence of D&D geekiness to some uni mates there, we'll see.... :heh:

I installed OpenRPG....errrr......i don't know how it works and i can't seem to find any games going on....so....that route seems to lead to a dead-end for me.

I've thought long and hard every since this thread about my DMing style and how i have approahced it all these years. With the helpful advises and cowbells, i've managed to break the mould and i can look ahead at my gaming now (at least as a DM anyway... :heh: ).

A BIG thanks to all of you, you've no idea how this has changed me. :o

Oh btw, since i started this thread, i might as well thread-jack and ask for more comments about the spellweavers being dragonkind or related to Tiamat. (yes....it has something to do with the Incursion campaign, maybe i'm just feeding an addiction.....opppss... :heh: )

I've dealt with min-maxers on occasion. Try this approach: assuming you're starting at first level, start them with an extra 250 xp for writing up a good background story (about 1 page in length). I've never seen the offer turned down. Then, every once in a while, use the background in planning adventures. It tends to draw them out of their smash and bash midsets a bit...just a thought..

I offered something like this in an aborted campaign once. A small bonus to backstory-writers. Two of the players completely ignored the incentive.
