Dervish Dance and Spring Attack

Symbiosis

First Post
There is a PRC called Dervish in the Complete Warrior Book, it has an ability called Dervish Dance that says:

Dervish Dance: A Dervish can become a whirling dancer of death a certain number of times per day. While in dervish dance, she can make a full attack action (for melee attack only) and still move up to her speed.

This class also recieves the Spring Attack located at the PHB 3.5.

My question is if you can combine this feat and this ability to move in, do a full attack on a creature and move out on the same round.

The key thing is : "When using the attack action with a melee weapon........"

Now, does a dervish dance's full attack action count as a attack action for this purposes? Debatable.

Not really debatable (or rather "should not be debatable," since in this forum anything is debatable :)). An attack action and a full attack action are two very different things. So no dervish dance + Spring Attack.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. And while we are at it, the dervish dance can only move AFTER the full attack or can he move before and then do the full attack?

Not really. The attack action is a standard action; the full attack action is a full round action.

You can't use Spring Attack with the full attack action, only the attack action.

Edit - that's what I get for walking away from the computer halfway through a reply! :)

I have been reading other forums on the explanation of Dervish Dance and I've come to understand that with using only Dervish Dance, you can move, make your attacks, and move out in the same round, is this correct?

The spring attack feat doesnt take into account any special abilities that let you move more than 5ft and full attack however. One could argue that when they made the feat, they figured that, since you cant move more than 5ft and full attack anyway, might as well specifically say that you use the attack action, as thats the only way you can move and attack.

Although if they wanted the dervish to be able to spring attack while executing a dervish dance, they could have mentioned it specifically, but i wouldnt be surprised if it was left out or something.

That's just an assumption. I assume, instead, that since Spring Attack lets you move in, attack and get out of harm's way, they figured that letting someone do so and full attack would be a bad idea and that they meant what they wrote.

well to counter, they let you take a 10 on tumble so i think that they dident leave anything out... so its not too bad as long as you have a high tumble.

Spring Attack doesn't interact with the Dervish Dance, it's one or the other.

As near as I can figure, the reason you get Spring Attack is so that you meet all the qualifications for Whirlwind Attack, and can take it with your next available feat (usually at 9th level).

And Whirlwind Attack works quite well with the Dervish Dance. :)
