Our Honor & Intrigue GM is a gifted player, and tends to forget that the rest of us aren't quite as lucky as him, and don't have insight into the forthcoming challenges . Yesterday, the quest for El Dorado appeared truly hopeless, and the players were seriously considering abandoning it. They'd all come to that conclusion independently.Honor & Intrigue, Privateers of the Complications:
Abandon quest? GM turns friendlier.
The characters just don't have the supplies for the next part, and every attempt to gather them has been ruined by swarms of giant ants. A single worker ant is a dangerous fight for a PC, and dozens of soldier ants showed up. We just fled. The ants' behaviour has been weird enough that we couldn't make plans for avoiding them. The GM had made them so fearsome that the journey through the tunnels that must connect to their nest looked simply suicidal. The players all have decades of gaming experience: but the quest really looked hopeless.
The GM realised he was about to lose his plot line, and things started getting easier.
